日本シリーズ第７戦が日本時間１０月３０日、東京・神宮球場で行われ、オリックス・バファローズが東京ヤクルト・スワローズに５−４で勝ち、１９９６年以来２６年ぶり５度目の日本一に輝いた。

得点経過は下記の通り。

■バファローズが先制
１回表、プレーボール直後、スワローズ先発、サイ・スニードの初球をこの日、先頭打者に入った太田椋選手がセンターバックスクリーンにホームランを打ち１点を先制した。先頭打者の初球ホームランは日本シリーズ史上初。（１−０）

■バファローズが追加点
５回表、先頭の８番伏見寅威選手あが右前安打で出塁。次打者の宮城大弥投手が犠打を敢行。これがショートへの内野安打になり、一塁、二塁に。太田椋選手も続いて三塁前の犠打を転がしこれも内野安打になり意図せず満塁のチャンスをつくった。続く宗佑磨が一塁ゴロを打ち、捕球した一塁手のホセ・オスナ選手が一塁ベースを踏み一死とし、すかさず中村捕手に転送し、三塁走者の太田選手をタッチアウトにし、併殺を完成させた。二死二塁、三塁と変わったが、次打者、中川圭太選手が四球を選び、再び満塁に。ここで吉田正尚選手が右肘に死球を受け押し出しで１点を追加した。（２−０）

次の杉本裕太郎選手は左中間に飛球を打ち上げたが、塩見泰隆中堅手が捕球できずに後逸。この間に３人の走者が相次いで生還し、一気に５−０とした。（５−０）

■スワローズが反撃
８回裏、バファローズはこの回から右の山崎颯一郎投手が登板。先頭の塩見泰隆選手が右前安打で出塁。続く丸山和郁選手も中前安打で一塁、二塁。次打者、山田哲人選手が三振に倒れた後、４番の村上宗隆選手が右前適時打を放ち二塁から塩見選手が生還し１点を返した。（１−５）

一死一塁、三塁となり、ホセ・オスナ選手がレフトスタンドに３ラン本塁打を放ち、１点差に迫った。（４−５）

■バファローズが逃げ切り勝利
９回裏、抑えのジェイコブ・ワゲスパック投手が登板し、三者凡退に打ち取り、バッファローズが勝利した。（５−４終了）

バファローズの投手陣が総じて好投
左腕の宮城大弥投手はプロ入り初の中４日での先発。さらに神宮球場初登板となったが、５回７３球を投げ、３安打無失点５奪三振と好投。２番手の宇多川優希投手もセ・リーグ三冠王の村上宗隆選手から１５２キロの速球で見逃し三振を奪うなど２イニングスを３奪三振無失点。その後、８回に登板した山崎颯一郎投手がスワローズ打線に捕まり、ホセ・オスナ選手の３ラン本塁打を含む４安打４失点したものの、山崎投手はシリーズを通してリリーフとしてチームに貢献した。８回途中、その山崎投手をリリーフした右横手投げの比嘉幹貴投手が続けて２打者を打ち取り、見事な火消し役を果たした。９回は、最も信頼度の高い抑えのジェイコブ・ワゲスパック投手が、鋭く落ちるフォークボールを武器に三者凡退に抑えた。

太田選手の先頭打者ホームランで効果的に
攻撃では、太田椋選手の先頭打者本塁打が序盤で主導権を握った。さらに、５回表、第５戦で痛烈な２本の本塁打を打った吉田正尚選手は、警戒したスワローズバッテリーによるインコースの際どいコースへの直球を誘発。押し出し死球で追加点を演出。もう一人のスラッガー、杉本裕太郎選手は、吉田選手の後の打者として、結果的に失策とはなったが、３点を追加する一打を放ち、存在感を見せた。

サイ・スニード投手が試合をつくる
スワローズの先発、サイ・スニード投手は、試合開始直後、いきなり初球を太田選手に本塁打を浴びたものの、試合を壊さなかった。４回２／３を投げて、６安打5失点（２自責点）も、５回裏は内外野のまずい守備によるピンチの拡大と失点だった。サイ・スニード投手降板後は４投手の継投で追加点を与えなかった。スワローズ打線は、8回裏４安打集中４点を挙げて１点差に迫る粘りを見せたが、強力な相手投手陣の前にあと一歩及ばなかった。

バファローズの優勝はイチロー氏時代以来
バッファローズは、開幕３戦で２敗１引き分けの劣勢から見事に巻き返した。４戦目以降は４連勝で故・仰木彬監督やイチロー氏を擁した１９９６年以来、２６年ぶり５度目の日本一を達成した。昨年は同じスワローズ相手に２勝４敗でシリーズ敗退。今年、その雪辱を果たした。山本由伸投手や宮城大弥投手らの先発陣、阿部翔太投手、山崎颯一郎投手、宇田川優希投手、ジェイコブ・ワゲスパック投手らのリリーフ陣は球界随一の実力を備えた。打撃では、吉田正尚選手や杉本裕太郎選手のスラッガーに加え、あらゆるタイプの打者を打線に起用し、うまく機能する素晴らしいチームだった。

バファローズ、自慢の投手陣がスワローズを１安打完封、日本一に王手

日本シリーズ第６戦が日本時間１０月２９日、スワローズの本拠地、東京・神宮球場で行われ、バファローズが３−０でスワローズを破り３連勝。２６年ぶりの日本一に王手をかけた。一方スワローズは明日の第７戦は絶対に負けられない状況となった。

　得点経過は下記の通り。

■バファローズが先制
　６回表、１番打者の太田椋選手が左前安打で出塁。続く宗佑磨選手が送りバントを決めて太田選手が二塁へ。３番打者の中川圭太選手が三振に倒れた後、前の試合で２本塁打を打った４番吉田正尚選手が申告敬遠され、二死一塁、二塁となり、杉本裕太郎選手が右前適時打を放ち、二塁から太田選手がホームインしバファローズが１点を先制した。（１−０）

■バファローズが２点を追加
　９回表、この回先頭の安達了一選手が右前安打で出塁。スワローズの投手はこの回から抑えのスコット・マクガフ投手。次打者の紅林弘太郎選手が投手前に犠打を転がしたが、マクガフ投手が一塁へ悪送球（記録はエラー）。ボールが逸れる間に安達選手が一気に生還し２点目を挙げた。打者走者の紅林選手は三塁まで進塁した。（２−０）

　続く伏見寅威選手がファーストファールフライに倒れたあと、リリーフの山崎颯一郎投手の代打、西野真弘がライトへ犠牲フライを打ち、紅林選手が生還し点差を広げた。（３−０）

バファローズは５人の継投で見事な１安打の完封リレーだった。先発した左腕の山﨑福也投手はスワローズ打線を5回をわずか１安打３奪三振で零封。６回以降の各１イニングを宇多川優希投手、平野佳寿投手、山崎颯一郎投手、抑えのジェイコブ・ワゲスパック投手が無安打無失点に抑える素晴らしい好投を見せた。

またスラッガーの杉本裕太郎選手も重要な場面で役割を果たした。５回表、前の試合で強烈な本塁打を２本放っている４番の吉田正尚選手が申告敬遠で勝負を回避されて、二死一塁、二塁。勝負を挑まれた杉本選手が適時打を打ち結果を出した。

スワローズの投手陣も好投したが、打線が１安打に抑え込まれ全く援護がなかった。スワローズは２勝３敗１分。明日の第７戦を残し、あとがない状況になった。

第７戦は明日、神宮球場で行われる。勝利が必須のスワローズは右腕のサイ・スニード投手（３０）が救世主を担う。サイ・スニード投手は先週日曜日の第２戦に先発し、４回を投げて６安打２失点４奪三振。試合は引き分けたので勝敗はつかなかった。バファローズは昨年の新人王左腕の宮城大弥投手（２１）が先発。宮城投手は今週火曜に行われた第３戦に先発登板し、５回１／３を投げて６安打３失点５奪差三振。スワローズの山田哲人選手に３点本塁打を打たれ負けがついた。

日本シリーズ第５戦が日本時間１０月２７日、バファローズの本拠地、京セラドームで行われ、バファローズが主砲、吉田正尚選手のサヨナラ本塁打でスワローズを６−４で下し２連勝。対戦成績を２勝２敗１分けとしてシリーズを振り出しに戻した。

　得点経過は下記の通り。

■スワローズがが先制
　５回表、青木宣親選手の安打と山田哲人選手の四球で２死１塁、２塁として、ホセ・オスナ選手が中前適時打を放ち１点を先制。（１−０）

■スワローズが追加点
　２回表、８番のドミンゴ・サンタナ選手がバファローズ先発の田嶋大樹投手から左中間スタンドへソロ本塁打。２−０とリードを広げた。（２−０）

■バファローズが同点に
　４回裏、先頭の杉本裕太郎選手が中前安打で出塁。宗佑磨選手がレフトへのポテンヒットで続き、１死１塁、２塁。次打者、太田涼選手がショートライナーで２死後、８番の紅林弘太郎選手が中前適時打を打ち、２塁から杉本選手が生還し１点を返した。（１−２）続く、若月健矢選手が左越え二塁打を打ち、連続適時打で同点に追いついた。（２−２）

■バファローズがリードを奪う
　５回裏、スワローズ先発の山下輝投手から、首位打者２回の吉田正尚選手が中堅右スタンドにソロホームランを打ち、１点をリード。この本塁打が今シリーズチーム初本塁打。（３−２）

■スワローズが逆転
　６回表、７番中村悠平選手がレフトへの２塁打で出塁。１死後、９番長岡秀樹選手が右前適時打を放ち同点に追いついた。（３−３）
　続く塩見泰隆選手のボテボテのゴロが二塁手への内野安打となり、１死１塁、２塁。次打者の青木宣親選手がライト線へ適時二塁打を打ち、長岡選手がホームを踏んで逆転した。（４−３）

■バファローズがサヨナラ勝ち
　１点を追うバッファローズは９回裏、若月健矢選手の代打、安達了一選手が先頭打者として四球で出塁。（スワローズはこの回から守護神のスコット・マクガフ投手が登板。）安達選手は次打者、福田周平選手の犠打で二塁へ。続く西野真弘選手はマクガフ投手を強襲する内野安打。打球を弾いたマクガフ投手は、体勢を崩しながらの一塁への送球がファールグランドに逸れる間に安達選手が２塁から一気に生還し、土壇場で同点に追いついた。（４−４）
　次打者、中川圭太選手が三振に倒れ２死となったが、吉田正尚選手がライト再上段席へ叩き込むサヨナラ２ラン本塁打を放ち勝負を決めた。推定飛距離１３０メートルの強烈な当たりだった。（６−４終了）

　両チーム、二桁安打（スワローズ１２、バファローズ１１）を放つシーソーゲームとなったが、バッファローズ自慢のリリーフ陣（阿部翔太投手、平野佳寿投手、ジェイコブ・ワゲスパック投手)が７回以降の３イニングスを無失点で凌ぎ、３−４の１点差を保って９回裏につないだことが勝因の１つと言えるだろう。特に阿部翔太投手は第２戦の９回に同点３ランホームランを浴び、バファローズは勝ち試合を引き分けに持ち込まれた。しかしこの日は１回１／３を好投。阿部投手は今季リリーフエースとして４４回を投げて１勝０敗、２３ホールドポイント。防御率は１点を切る０.６１とリーグ優勝に大きく貢献。今日の好投で残り２試合に向けて気持ちを切り替えて挑めるだろう。

　またバファローズのシリーズ制覇の鍵を握る選手の一人、吉田正尚選手が２本の本塁打。今シリーズ昨日までチームは本塁打がなかっただけに勢い付ける２発となった。もう一人の主砲、杉本裕太郎選手は昨日の第４戦で決勝適時打。杉本選手にも一発が出ればさらにシリーズの流れを呼び込める。

　しかし、シリーズはタイになったとは言え、ここまでの試合内容はスワローズの試合巧者ぶりが上回っているのは否めない。この後の第６戦、第７戦は再びスワローズの本拠地、東京・神宮球場に舞台は戻る。ホームの後押しも受けるスワローズが有利とみる。バファローズは試合を有利に進めるためにもアウェイの２試合は先制点をとりたいところだ。

バファローズ、強力投手陣がスワローズを１−０完封、今シリーズ初勝利

日本シリーズ第４戦が日本時間１０月２６日、バファローズの本拠地、京セラドームで行われ、バファローズが１−０の息詰まる投手戦を制し、今シリーズ初勝利を挙げ、対戦成績を１勝２敗１分けとした。

得点経過は下記の通り。

■バファローズが先制
３回裏、この回先頭の３番中川圭太選手が死球で出塁。次打者、吉田正尚選手の二塁ゴロの間に中川選手が二塁へ進塁。５番の頓宮裕真選手が三塁ゴロに倒れ、二死二塁となって、６番杉本裕太郎選手が左前適時打を放ち、二塁から中川選手が生還し１点を先制した。（１−０）この１点が両チームにとってこの試合唯一の得点となった。

バファローズの投手陣が１点をよく守り切った。先発右腕の山岡泰輔投手は４回１／３を投げて、５安打無失点。５回表一死三塁の場面で山岡投手を引き継いだリリーフの宇田川優希投手は１５０キロ中盤の速球と落差の大きいフォークボールを有効に使い後続二人を三振に切ってとった。宇田川投手は１回２／３を投げて被安打４ながら無失点。７回、８回を山崎颯一郎投手が抑え、９回をジェイコブ・ワゲスパック投手が締めた。

スワローズの投手陣も好投したが打線の援護がなかった。先発の石川雅規投手は５回をわずか２安打に抑え４奪三振。打たれた１本が杉本選手のタイムリーとなったのが悔やまれる。４２歳の石川投手は勝てば日本シリーズ最高齢勝ち投手となるところだったが実現しなかった。６回、７回を木澤尚文投手が無失点に抑えた後、８回は今野龍太投手が、３四球を出しやや不安定ながら点を与えなかった。

バファローズは、この後、第６戦と７戦はスワローズの本拠地の神宮球場になるだけに、明日のホームでの最終試合もとって、シリーズをタイにして敵地に乗り込みたいところだ。

京セラドームでの最後の試合となる第５戦は明日行われる。２勝目を狙うバファローズは左腕の田嶋大樹投手が先発する。２６歳の田嶋投手は今季、２０試合に登板し９勝３敗、防御率２.６６。スワローズ戦の登板はなし。一方で、依然２勝１敗１分けとシリーズをリードしているスワローズは、２３歳のルーキー左腕、山下輝投手が先発する。山下投手は先月の２２日に一軍デビューしたばかり。今シーズンは２試合１２回１／３を投げて１勝１敗、防御率１.４６。バファローズ戦の登板はなし。

５回表、この回先頭の中村悠平選手が左前安打で出塁。次打者、ドミンゴ・サンタナ選手も中前安打でつなぎ、無死一塁、二塁とした。その後の２打者が凡退した後、２死となって、この試合、一番打者に入った山田哲人選手がバッファローズ先発左腕の宮城大弥投手からレフトスタンドへ３点本塁打を放ち、先制した。（３−０）

■スワローズが追加点
７回表、この回先頭の８番丸山和郁選手が一塁線へバント安打を決めて出塁。１番山田哲人選手が四球、３番塩見泰隆選手が死球となって二死満塁のチャンスをつくり、今季三冠王の村上宗隆選手が押し出しの四球を選び１点を追加した。（４−０）

■スワローズがダメ押し
９回表、山崎晃大朗選手の中前安打と塩見泰隆選手の死球で１死一塁、二塁。４番の村上宗隆選手中堅へ二塁打を打ち、山崎選手と塩見選手が生還し６−０とリードを広げた。続くホセ・オスナ選手も中前適時打を放ち、二塁から村上選手が生還し、７−０とした。（７−０）

■バファローズが最後に維持
９回裏、６番の中川圭太選手が左前安打で出塁。次打者、杉本裕太郎選手も中前安打で続き、一死一塁、二塁と好機をつくった。ここで伏見寅威選手の代打に入った西野真弘選手が左前適時打し１点を返した。しかし後続が打ち取られ敗れた。　　（７−１終了）

スワローズは左腕の高橋奎二投手が先発。６回を３安打無失点に抑え、７三振を奪う好投。バファローズは昨シーズンの新人王左腕の宮城大弥選手が先発。５回を投げて６安打３失点５奪三振。山田選手に打たれた３ラン本塁打が悔やまれた。

スワローズは投打ともに安定感を見せている。特に１、２戦と無安打だった主砲の山田哲人選手が今日はシリーズ１号本塁打を含む４打数２安打と復調の兆しを見せた。クライマックスシリーズでMVPに輝いたホセ・オスナ選手は２戦目までで打率７割。この試合も２安打を放ち好調を維持した。４番の村上宗隆選手も２安打３打点と貢献した。

一方でバファローズはここまで２敗１分とシリーズ開幕３戦で厳しいスタートとなった。得点圏に走者を出しチャンスを作るものの後一本が出ない。キーマンとなる主砲の二人、２度の首位打者を誇る吉田正尚選手と昨シーズンのホームラン王、杉本裕太郎選手に本塁打が出ると流れを変える可能性がある。第４戦を落とすとスワローズに王手をかけられるだけに是が非でも明日は勝ちたいところだ。

第４戦も明日、京セラドーム大阪で行われる。バファローズは右腕の山岡泰輔投手が先発する。山岡投手は今季、２２試合に登板し６勝８敗、防御率２.６０。スワローズ戦には１試合に登板し、７回６安打自責点１、８三振を奪い勝ち投手になっており、なんとかスワローズの勢いを止めたい。スワローズは４２歳のベテラン左腕の石川雅規投手が先発する。石川投手は今季１６試合に投げて６勝４敗、防御率４.５０。バファローズ戦には１試合に登板し、５イニングを投げて被安打５、自責点１、奪三振４で石川投手も勝ち投手になっている。

内山の９回弾でスワローズ敗戦回避もバファローズは痛い引き分け

スワローズ３−３バファローズ　延長１２回引き分け/ Ｓ１勝１分-Ｂ１敗１分 / ２０２２年１０月２３日（神宮球場）

日本シリーズ第２戦が日本時間１０月２３日、東京の神宮球場で行われた。試合は延長１２回まで行われたが、３−３で規定により引き分けになった。

得点経過は下記の通り。

■バファローズが先制。
３回表、先頭の紅林弘太郎選手がライトへの二塁打で出塁し、次打者の伏見寅威選手の二塁ゴロで三塁へ進塁。次打者、バファローズの先発、山﨑福也選手が右前適時打で１点を先制。（１−０）
さらに安達了一選手が右前安打で一塁、二塁とし、宗佑磨選手が右前安打。これをスワローズの右翼手、ドミンゴ・サンタナ選手がファンブル（記録は失策）する間に山﨑選手が生還し２−０とした。

■バファローズが追加点。
５回表、２死一塁、三塁からバッファローズのスラッガー、杉本裕太郎選手が三塁へ適時内野安打を打ち１点を追加し、３−０とリードを広げた。

■スワローズが土壇場で同点に追いつく。
９回裏、先頭の宮本丈選手が右中間を破る二塁打で出塁。続く塩見泰隆選手が四球を選び、無死一塁、二塁。ここでリリーフ投手の今野龍太選手の打順となったが、内山壮真選手が代打で打席に入り、レフトスタンドへ起死回生の３ラン本塁打を打ち、土壇場で３−３に追いつき延長戦に持ち込んだ。

試合は３−３のまま延長１２回まで決着がつかず規定により引き分けとなった。試合時間は５時間３分に及び、両チーム共に８人の投手を費やした。

８回まで３−０とリードして、勝利まであと１イニングとしていただけにバッファローズにとっては痛い引き分けとなった。しかし、移動日を挟んで第３戦から舞台をバファローズの本拠地、大阪に移す。ホームアドバンテージを利用してうまく気持ちを切り替えたいところだ。

　日本シリーズが日本時間１０月２２日、東京の神宮球場で開幕し、セントラルリーグ優勝の東京ヤクルトスワローズとパシフィックリーグ優勝のオリックスバファローズの第１戦が行われた。両チームともに２年連続での出場。昨年はスワローズが４勝２敗で日本一に輝いた。今年は予告先発が採用される。７戦４戦先勝で行われるシリーズは第１戦、２戦はスワローズの本拠地、神宮球場で、３戦、４戦はバファローズの本拠地、京セラドーム大阪で行われる。以降、勝敗に応じて、第５戦は京セラドーム、６戦、７戦は神宮球場を舞台とする。今日は４−２でスワローズが勝ち先勝した。

　スワローズは幸先のいいスタートを切った。

■初回、先頭の塩見泰隆選手の左前安打と今季三冠王を獲得した村上宗隆選手の四球で２死１塁、３塁の好機をつくり、ホセ・オスナ選手が左前適時２塁打を放ち２者が生還し２点を先制した。

■しかし、バファローズもすぐに反撃。２回表、２安打と四球で１死満塁と攻め、紅林弘太郎選手の右前適時打で１点を返した。続く先発投手の山本由伸選手が空振り三振に倒れたが、依然２死満塁から１番福田周平選手がスワローズ先発、小川泰弘投手から押し出しの四球を選び２−２の同点とした。

■３回裏のスワローズの攻撃。先頭の塩見泰隆選手が４冠投手、山本由伸投手からの左中間スタンドへのソロ本塁打で３−２と勝ち越し。さらに５番のホセ・オスナ選手も左越ソロ本塁打を打ち、４−２と２点差とした。

バファローズは４回、吉田正尚選手が、ホークス先発・和田毅投手から今シリーズ２本目となる２ラン本塁打を放ち、２−０とリード。

しかし、７回、ホークス、アルフレッド・デスパイネ選手に同点２ラン本塁打を許し、試合は振り出しに戻った。

試合はホークスが３点を取って投手陣が守り切った。

タイガースの先発、才木浩人投手は２回、過去首位打者を獲ったベイスターズの好打者、宮崎敏郎選手にソロ本塁打を許すと、続く３回には３塁走者を背負っての暴投で２点目を献上。序盤はベイスターズが優勢に立った。

しかし、タイガースは４回、今年２年目の強打者、佐藤輝明選手がセンターフェンスを超えるソロホームランを放ち１点差とすると、６回には無死２塁の好機を作り、昨シーズンリーグ最多安打の近本光司選手が右翼フェンスを直撃する適時２塁打を打ち、２−２の同点に追いついた。その後、１死となって、原口文仁選手が左前適時打を放ち、２塁走者の近本選手が生還し、３−２と逆転した。

タイガースは先発の才木投手が３回途中で降板した後、４人の投手を注ぎ込み、９回まで粘るベイスターズ打線をなんとか無失点で振り切った。

打線が活発なホークスは１１安打で８得点。4番の柳田悠岐選手が３回に２試合連続となる満塁ホームランで先制。キャッチャーの甲斐拓也選手は２本のタイムリーで貢献した。

ホークスの先発は今季、ノーヒットノーランを達成した東浜巨投手。５回を投げて被安打４の１失点でゲームを作ると、4人の救援投手で逃げ切った。

ライオンズは今季リーグ本塁打王と打点王に輝いた4番の山川穂高選手が９回に本塁打を放ったが点差が大きすぎた。

日本プロ野球のプレーオフが開幕した。パ・リーグのクライマックスシリーズ、福岡ソフトバンクホークス対埼玉西武ライオンズの第１戦が、１０月８日、福岡のペイペイドームで行われた。試合はホークスが５−３で勝ち、ファイナルシリーズ進出へ王手をかけた。

ホークスは３回、１点を先制した後、スラッガーの柳田悠岐選手が３ランホームランを放ち、４−０として試合の主導権を握った。先発したエースの千賀滉大投手は８回を投げて、被安打４、３失点、１１個の三振を奪い役割を果たした。

クライマックスシリーズ、横浜DeNAベイスターズ対阪神タイガースの第１戦が１０月８日、横浜スタジアムで行われた。タイガースがベイスターズを２−０で破り、ファイナルシリーズ進出に王手をかけた。

タイガースは０−０で迎えた５回１死満塁のチャンスで、ベイスターズの左腕エース今永昇太投手から近本光司選手がセンターへ２点タイムリーヒットを放ち、均衡を破った。

タイガースは右サイドスローのエース青柳晃洋投手が先発。６回を投げ、被安打４の無失点の好投でクライマックスシリーズ４度目の先発で初勝利を挙げた。また青柳投手は５回に自ら近本選手のタイムリーのきっかけを作る安打も放って投打に活躍した。阪神は青柳投手と4人のリリーフ投手の継投でベイスターズ打線を完封した。

Game 7 between the Tokyo Yakult Swallows and the Orix Buffaloes in the Japan Series took place at Jingu Stadium, Tokyo, on October 30, JST. The Buffaloes edged the Swallows 5-4 to win the Japan Series title for the first time in twenty-six years since 1996 and the fifth time overall.

The scoring process is below.

■The Buffaloes scored first.
In the top of the first inning, just after "play," Buffoloes' leadoff hitter, Ryo Ohta, hit the first pitch for a home run into the batter's eye off Cy Sneed. The right-handed batter became the first player to hit a homer on the first pitch just after "play ball" in the Japan Series history. (1-0)

■The Buffaloes got additional runs.
Torai Fushimi(the No.8 hitter) led in the top of the fifth with a single to the right fielder. Hiroya Miyagi tried to lay down a sacrifice bunt that luckily resulted in an infield single to the shortstop. Ryo Ohta also followed with a sacrifice bunt that ended up with an infield single by which the Buffaloes unintentionally had a bases-loaded situation. The next batter, Yuma Mune, grounded out to the first baseman, Jose Osuna, who stepped on first base with the batted ball to get the first out and then threw it to the catcher, Yuhei Nakamura, who tagged the third runner, Torai Fushimi to have the second outs to complete a 3-2 double play. The Swallows shortly changed the situation to runners on second and third with two outs. The Buffaloes, however, filled the bases again with Keita Nakagawa's walk. Masataka Yoshida took a pitch on his right elbow to force home. (2-0)

The next batter, Yutaro Sugimoto, hit a fly ball to the left-center field. Swallows' center fielder Yasutaka Shiomi made a catching error to let the fly ball past him. The three runners scored during the mistake. (5-0)

■The Swallows staged a rally.
At the bottom of the eight to lead off, Yasutaka Shiomi reached first with a single to the right fielder. Buffaloes's right-handed pitcher Soichiro Yamazaki came to the plate from the inning. Kazuya Maruyama followed with a single to the center fielder. After the next hitter, Tetsuto Yamada struck out, Munetaka Murakami (the No.4 batter) hit an RBI double to the right fielder and drove in Shiomi. (1-5)

In the case of runners on first and third with one out after Murakami, Jose Osuna subsequently crushed a three-run shot into the left stands off righty Soichiro Yamazaki to cut the deficit. (4-5)

■The Buffaloes won.
Buffaloes' closer, Jacob Waguespack, retired three batters in a row to shut the door in the bottom of the ninth. (5-4 final)

The Buffaloes' bullpen pitched well as a whole. The left-handed pitcher Hiroya Miyagi made his first start after a four-day rest and had his first appearance at Jingu Stadium. On 73 pitches, the 21-year-old lefty fired five strikeouts and gave up three hits and no runs over five innings. The second pitcher of the game, Yuki Udagwa, fanned three batters including getting a Triple Crawn hitter Munetaka Murakami to strike out and called on a 94.4-mph fastball in two scoreless innings. Righty Soichiro Yamazaki, who followed Udagawa, allowed four runs and four hits, including the three-run homer from Jose Osuna. However, the righty contributed to his team as a reliever throughout the series. Sidearmer Motoki Higa, who replaced Yamazaki during the bottom of the seventh, played a crucial role in not allowing a coming from behind to retire the last two batters. In the final inning, the most reliable closer Jacob Waguespack completed the 1-2-3 ninth inning using his nasty split ball.

■Ohta's leadoff home run
Ryo Ohta's leadoff homer helped his team seize the game's initiative from the early stage. In the top of the fifth, superstar Masataka Yoshida, who smashed two impressive shots in Game 5, led to the bases-loaded hit-by-pitch because Swallows' battery had to throw a fastball on the inside black to reiter. One more slugger, Yutaro Sugimoto, who went to his at-bat after Yoshida, played an active role by hitting the fly ball to the left-center field, adding three runs with the center fielder Yasutaka Shiomi's error.

■Cy Sneed kept his team in the game.
Swallows' starter Cy Sneed hit the leadoff homer from Ohta with his first pitch but didn't blow up the game. The righty was caused trouble for ragged fielding of the in and out fields in the top of the fifth, although he gave up five runs (two earned runs) and six hits over 4 2/3 frames. Four relievers after Cy Sneed didn't allow additional runs.
The Swallows' offense scored four times with a four-hitting barrage, including Jose Osuna's three-run shot to make a one-run margin, 4-5, in the bottom of the eighth. However, it was tight for them to tie the game against Buffaloes' strong bullpen.

■The Buffaloes' victory since Ichiro's era
The Buffaloes bounced back from 2 losses and a draw in the first three matches. They won four consecutive games to become the Japan Series Champion for the first time in 26 years and the fifth since 1996 with manager Akira Ohgi and Ichiro Suzuki. Last year, they lost the series against the Swallows, 2-4. They successfully took the return series this year with the most remarkable pitchings represented by a four-award pitcher, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Hiroya Miyagi as a starter and Shota Abe, Soichiro Yamazaki, Yuki Udagawa, and Jacob Waguespack as set upper. And, too, their offense in the combination of the varied talented hitters worked very well in addition to sluggers such as Masataka Yoshida and Yutaro Sugimoto this season.

Game 6 in the Japan Series between the Tokyo Yakult Swallows and the Orix Buffaloes was held at Jingu Stadium, Tokyo, home of the Swallows, on October 29, JST. The Buffaloes had the third straight win with a 3-0 shutout over the Swallows. The Pacific League winner was a win away from the Japan Series Champion for the first time in twenty-six years. The Swallows that hit only one in Game 6 must win tomorrow's match to survive.

■The Buffaloes scored first.
In the top of the sixth inning, lead-off hitter Ryo Ohta got on board with a single to the left fielder. The No.2 hitter, Yuma Mune, had a sacrifice bunt to send Ohta to second. Masataka Yoshida, who hit two homers in Game 5, was intentionally walked after Keita Nakagawa (the No.3 hitter) struck out. Yutaro Sugimoto slashed an RBI single, on which Ohta scored. (1-0)

■The Buffaloes scored two more runs.
In the top of the ninth, Ryoichi Adachi(the No.6 hitter) led off the inning with a single to the right fielder off Swallows' closer, Scott McGough, who came in to pitch from the inning. The next batter, Kotaro Kurebayashi, put down a sacrifice bunt to McGough, whose throw to the first baseman was wild. Adachi came home, and batter-runner, Kurebayashi, reached third base on the error. (2-0)

After Torai Fushimi fouled out to the first baseman, Masahiro Nishino, who went to bat for a reliever, Soichiro Yamazaki, made a sacrifice fly to the right fielder to drive in Kotaro Kurebayashi. (3-0 final)

Five Buffaloes' pitchers brilliantly combined on a one-hit shutout. Left-handed starter, Sachiya Yamasaki, held the Swallows for five scoreless innings, allowing only one hit, and striking out three. Yuki Udagawa, Yoshihisa Hirano, Soichiro Yamazaki, and closer Jacob Waguespack firmly had a scoreless inning with no crashes.

Buffaloe's slugger, Yutaro Sugimoto, fulfilled his role with an RBI single in a critical situation with runners on first and second with two outs after Masataka Yoshida, who shocked the Central League Champion with two monster shots in Game 5, walked intentionally in the top of the sixth.

Swallows' pitching stuff pitched well as well. Their offense, held to only a hit, couldn't support them. Game 7 is a must-win for the Swallows with a 2-3 and a draw.

The Seventh Game takes place at Jingu Stadium tomorrow. Right-handed pitcher, Cy Sneed, gets the nod in Game 7 to save the Swallows. The 30-year-old righty started Game 2 last Sunday, giving up two runs, six hits, and fanning four over four frames. Any pitchers of both clubs had a no-decision with a draw. The Buffaloes go with the 2021 rookie of the year lefty, Hiroya Miyagi, who took the mound as a starter in Game 3 last Tuesday. The 21-year-old left-hander pitched 5 1/3 innings in Game 3, allowing six hits and three runs, including a three-run home run from Swallows' slugger Tetsuto Yamada to get a loss, striking out five batters.

The Buffaloes had the second straight victory with a 6-4 walk-off win over the defending champion in Game 4 of the Japan Series. The Pacific League winner finally evened up the Series with two wins, two losses, and a draw.

■The Buffaloes tied the game.
Yutaro Sugimoto got the first base on a single to the left fielder in the second batter of the bottom of the fourth inning. Yuma Mune followed with a bloop to the left and set the table with runners on first and second with one out. The No.8 batter, Kotaro Kurebayashi, singled to the center fielder to score Sugimoto after the No. 7 hitter, Ryo Ohta's lineout to the shortstop. (1-2)

■The Buffaloes took the lead.
A two-time Pacific League top hitter Masataka Yoshida delivered a go-ahead solo homer into the center stands off Hikaru Yamashita in the bottom of the fifth. It was the first home run of the Buffaloes in the Series. (3-2)

■The Swallows came from behind.
In the top of the sixth, the No.7 hitter, Yuhei Nakamura, doubled to the left. The No.9 hitter, Hideki Nagaoka, had a game-tying single to the right fielder with two outs. (3-3)

The following hitter, Yasutaka Shiomi, hit an infield single on a soft ground ball to the second baseman to make a situation with runners on first and second. The next hitter, Norichika Aoki, doubled to the right-field corner, on which Hideki Nagaoka came home to have a one-run lead. (4-3)

■The Buffaloes walked off.
Ryoichi Adachi, who pinched a hit for Kenya Wakatsuki, led off the bottom of the ninth and walked against Swallows' closer, Scott McGough, who came to the plate from the inning. Adachi took second base on a sacrifice bunt by the next hitter, Shuhei Fukuda. Masahiro Nishino then ripped a drive off McGough for an infield single. The closer, who fumbled the batted ball, made a sailing throw to the first baseman, Jose Osuna, breaking his posture. The second runner, Adachi, arrived home safely on the thrown ball going into foul territory. (4-4)

The next batter, Keita Nakagawa, struck out, which gave the Swallows the second out. Masataka Yoshida, however, crashed a game-ending two-run home run that was a 427-foot monster shot into the upper right seats. (6-4 final)

Both teams had a double-digit hit (the Swallows with 12, the Buffaloes with 11) to try to take the seesaw game. An important thing here was that the Buffaloes' pride of relievers, such as Shota Abe, Yoshihisa Hirano, and Jacob Waguespack, combined on a shutout in the last three innings to hold a 4-3 deficit. Especially Shota Abe, who failed a relief to allow a game-tying homer in the ninth in Game 2, pitched well today over 1 1/3 innings. The 29-year-old righty recorded a 1-0 with 23 hold points over 44 frames, having a 0.61 ERA, surprisingly lower than 1.00, as a relief ace this season. He will be able to shift his emotion for the next two games.

In addition, one of the key players, Masataka Yoshida, hit two home runs for his team, which had no homers in the past four games. Also, another slugger, Yutaro Sugimoto, drove in the deciding run yesterday. With his home run, the Buffaloes will be able to seize more momentum in this Series.

However, although the Buffaloes tied the Series, the Swallows were skilled in tactics better than them. Additionally, the Series returns to Tokyo, where the defending champion hosts the last two games to take a home-field advantage. The Buffaloes need to score first to dominate the next away games.

The sixth match will be held at Jingu Stadium, Tokyo, on October 29.

The Buffaloes' strong pitching blanks the Swallows 1-0
in Game 4 to grasp their 1st victory

Game 4 in the Japan Series between the Tokyo Yakult Swallows and the Orix Buffaloes was held at Kyocera Dome Osaka, home of the Buffaloes, on October 26, JST. The Buffaloes took an　intense pitching duel over the Swallows 1-0 in Game 4 of the Series to have their first win and improved to 1-2 and a draw.

The scoring process is below.

The Buffaloes scored first.The No.3 hitter, Keita Nakagawa, to lead off the bottom of the third inning, was hit by a pitch. Nakagawa moved to second on a groundout to the second baseman of the next batter, Masataka Yoshida. The No.6 hitter, Yutaro Sugimoto, singled to the left fielder to drive in Nakagawa after the No. 5 hitter, Yuma Tongu, grounded out to the third baseman. (1-0) It was only run on the scoreboard today.

Buffaloes' bullpen well-protected a one-run game. Right-handed pitcher, Taisuke Yamaoka, started Game 4 and held the CL champion for 4 1/3 innings, allowing five hits. Reliever Yuki Udagawa, who replaced Yamaoka in a situation with a runner on third with one out, struck out the next two batters to keep scoreless innings, using his split with a significant drop and 96-mph fastball. Udagawa had 1 2/3 scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Soichiro Yamazaki threw two scoreless innings. Jacob Waguespack closed out the Swallows in the ninth.

Swallows' pitchers also pitched well. However, they were able to be supported by their offense.
Masanori Ishikawa missed a win as the oldest pitcher in the Japan Series history. The 42-year-old lefty threw five innings, giving up only two hits, including the RBI single from Yutaro Sugimoto, and fanning four batters. Right-hander, Naofumi Kizawa pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh. Righty Ryuta Konno ended up with no runs in the eighth, although he was relatively unstable in walking three.

The Pacific League champion wants to go to Tokyo with one more win to tie the Series, taking a home-field advantage at Kyocera Dome Osaka because the Central League winner hosts the Buffaloes for Games 6 and 7.

Game 5 for the last match at the Kyocera Dome Osaka will be held tomorrow.

The Buffaloes aiming for the second win, start a left-handed pitcher, Daiki Tajima, in Thursday's Game 5. The 26-year-old pitcher had 9-3 with a 2.66 ERA in 20 games with no starts over the Swallows this season. On the other hand, the 23-year-old left-handed rookie Hikaru Yamashita starts for the Swallows leading the Series 2-1 with a tie. Yamashita made his NPB debut in the game against the Chunichi Dragons on September 22 and recorded 1-1 with a 1.46 ERA, throwing 12 1/3 innings in 2 games without matchups off the Buffaloes this season.

The No. 3 hitter, Yasutaka Shiomi, was hit by a pitch to have a bases-loaded situation with two outs. The 2022 Triple Crown hitter, Munetaka Murakami, walked in a run. (4-0)

The Swallows scored three runs for insurance.
In the top of the ninth, Munetaka Murakami hit a two-run double to center field with runners on first and second with one out after Kotaro Yamasaki singled to the center fielder, and a pitch hit Yasutaka Shiomi. The next batter, Jose Osuna, had an RBI single to the center fielder. (7-0)

The Buffaloes came back with a run. In the bottom of the ninth, the No.6 hitter, Keita Nakagawa, singled to the left fielder. Yutaro Sugimoto followed with a single to the center fielder to set the table with runners on first and second with one out. The pinch hitter for Torai Fushimi, Masahiro Nishino, had a single to the left fielder to score a run. But, the next two hitters were retired by Swallows reliever Reiji Kozawa. (7-1 final)

Swallows' lefty, Keiji Takahashi, struck out seven in his solid start against the Buffaloes in Game 3 of the Japan Series, allowing three hits and no runs.

The 2021 rookie of the year's lefty, Hiroya Miyagi, started the game and gave up six hits and three runs including the three-run homer from Tetsuto Yamada, striking out five.

The Swallows have been in good condition of both their offense and defense. Especially, their slugger Tetsuto Yamada, who had no hits in the first two games, went 2-for-four with his first homer of the Series to show a sign of recovery. The Climax Series MVP winner, Jose Osuna, who hit .700 before today's game, got two hits to remain hot. The No.4 hitter, Munetaka Murakami, earned three RBI with two hits.

The Buffaloes, however, got a sluggish getaway with a 0-2 and a tie in the first three games of the Japan Series. They could not have another hit with an RBI after a runner into scoring position. They will change the mood if the two-time batting champion Masataka Yoshida and the 2021 home run leader Yutaro Sugimoto hit a home run in the next game. They must win Game 4 because the Swallows will make a situation to win the Series with a win away from the Championship if they lose it.

Game 4 of the Series will be held at the Dome tomorrow. Right-handed pitcher, Taisuke Yamaoka, starts for the Buffaloes to break the momentum of the Swallows. In the top of the third, the first hitter of the inning, Kotaro Kurebayashi, doubled to the right and reached third base on a groundout to the second baseman of the next batter, Trai Fushimi. The 2022 Japan Series in the best-of-seven matchup opened at Jingu Stadium in Tokyo on October 22, JST. Game 1 between the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, the Central League's champion, and the Orix Buffaloes, the Pacific League's winner, was held on the day. Both teams advanced to the series for the second consecutive year. The Swallows won the series over the Buffaloes with a win-loss record of 4-2 last year. The series will adopt the policy of announcing starting pitchers in advance. Games 1 and 2 will take place at Jingu Stadium, home of the Swallows. Matches 3 and 4 will be at Kyocera Dome Osaka. The Swallows took the opener today with a 4-2 victory over the Buffaloes.

◆The Swallows got a good start. They made a chance with runners on first and third with two outs by lead-off hitter Yasutaka Shiomi's single to the left fielder and Triple Crown winner Munetaka Murakami's walk in the bottom of the first inning. ◆The Buffaloes, however, tied the game shortly. ◆In the top of the eighth, the Buffaloes cut their deficit. T-Okada, who batted for reliever Shota Abe, singled to the center fielder to drive in Masahiro Ninisho, who singled and reached second base on a sacrifice bunt 3-4.

◆In the bottom of the eighth, the Swallows extended their lead. Munetaka Murakami, who hit 56 homers, the second place in NPB history this season, smashed a solo shot off former D-bucks reliever Yoshishisa Hirano into the right stands to give his team a 2-run lead of 5-3.

The Buffaloes couldn't catch the Swallows by the three-homer damage.

Swallows righty Yasuhiro Ogawa made his start. Ogawa won, allowing six hits, a walk, and two earned runs in five innings. Four relievers following Ogawa combined on only one run in four innings.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the best pitcher in Japanese baseball, started the opener for the Buffaloes and gave up four hits with four earned runs, including two solo home runs off Yasutaka Shiomi and Jose Osuna, striking out over 4 0/3 frames. Yamamoto left the mound during an at-bat with Patrick Kivlehan, the fifth inning's first batter, because of an uncomfortable feeling to the sides.

Game 2 will take place at the Stadium tomorrow. Right-handed pitcher Cy Sneed will start for the Swallows. The fourth game on the final stage of the Pacific League Climax Series between the Orix Buffaloes and the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks was held at Kyocera Dome Osama on October 15, JST. The Buffaloes defeated the Hawks 3-2 in walk-off fashion in Game 4. They earned four wins, including a one-win advantage, reached the Japan Series for the second straight year, and their fourteenth overall.

The Buffaloes took a 2-0 lead with Masataka Yoshida's second series homer into the high center stands off Tsuyoshi Wada, the Hawks starting pitcher, in the bottom of the fourth.

The Hawks' slugger Alfred Despaigne belted a two-run home run off righty Soichiro Yamasaki to tie the game 2-2 in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the ninth, the buffaloes' offense set the table with runners on second and third with two outs. The number 3 hitter Keita Nakagawa hit a game-deciding single on a line drive to go through the hole between third and short 3-2.

The Buffaloes' righty Taisuke Yamaoka started the game and held the Hawks scoreless for four innings with four strikeouts, allowing two hits. Righty Yuki Udagawa, who took over the mound from Yamaoka, pitched two perfect innings. Righty Soichiro Yamazaki, following Udagwa, threw a hit with Despaigne's shot and struck out three using a 99.3-mph fastball over two frames. Closer's righty Shota Abe had a shutout relief with a hit in the ninth to wait for the walk-off victory.

The Tokyo Yakult Swallows will participate in the Japan Series as a Central League champion for the second year. The Swallows won the Series last year. The Buffaloes will meet the Swallows for two years in a row to revenge the defeat.

The third game on the final stage of the Central League Climax Series between the Tokyo Yakult Swallows with two wins and the Hanshin Tigers with two losses, was held at Jingu Stadium, Tokyo, on October 14, JST. The Swallows swept the series with a 6-3 victory over the Tigers to clinch the Japan Series berth for the second year in a row as a defending champion. Their second consecutive appearance in the Japan Series is the first time since 1993.

The Swallows came from behind to win today.

In the seventh, in which they were down by three runs, 0-3, the first-ranked team grabbed a chance with the bases loaded with two outs. The Swallows scored two runs on a throwing error to the second by the Tigers' first baseman, Jefry Marte, who caught a ground ball that Kotaro Yamasaki hit, 2-3. The next batter, Takeshi Miyamoto, followed with a walk to have the bases-loaded situation again. Munetaka Murakami, a Triple Crown winner, hit a two-run infield single on a weak grounder to the pitcher, Masumi Hamachi. Also, two more runners continuously came home during hamachi's throwing error to flip Murakami's ground ball with his glove to first, 5-3.

In the eighth, Tetsuto Yamada, the 2015 home run leader, doubled with an RBI on a line drive to the center fielder for insurance, 6-3.

The Swallows' starting pitcher, Keiji Takahashi, gave up four hits, four walks, and three runs, striking out seven over five frames. Closer Scott McGough shut the door in the ninth after three relievers following Takahashi combined three scoreless innings.

The Tigers' ace pitcher, Koyo Aoyagi, pitched very well, allowing only three hits, four walks, and four runs with five strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. The sidearmer's righty left the mound with a 3-0 lead during the seventh in a position to win, being confident of his team's victory to survive the final series.
However, the Tigers had a result of losing the game to errors that they never imagined.

The third game on the final stage of the Pacific League Climax Series between the Orix Buffaloes and the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks was held at Kyocera Dome Osaka on October 14, JST. The Hawks beat the Buffaloes 3-0 to hold out hope for the Series victory. By today's result, the Hawks had one win and two losses, while the Buffaloes went three wins, including a one-win advantage and one loss.

The Hawks got three runs, and their bullpens combined on a shutout.

In the first, the Hawks' lead-off hitter, Masaki Mimori, reached the second base with a double to right-center field. The next batter, Ukyo Shuto, had a sacrifice bunt to the Buffaloes' starter, Daiki Tajima, to send Mimori to the third base. Mimori luckily came home by Tajima's throwing error to the first baseman, 1-0. A designated hitter from Cuba, Alfredo Despaigne, also singled to the center fielder to score Shuto 2-0.

In the seventh, the third baseman, Isami Nomura, delivered a solo shot into the right stands to add the third run, 3-0.

The Hawks' hill staff threw well to save their team. Their ace righty, Kodai Senga, held the league champion scoreless for 6 0/3 innings with three hits, striking out five. The 29-year-old pitcher effectively used his nasty splitter and 99-mph fastball. In the final inning, 2021 holds leader lefty Livan Moinelo closed the game after three relievers kept scoreless innings.

The Hawks are still alive by today's game, but the situation in which they can't lose anymore. They need three more victories to win the series.

The fourth match will be held at the Dome tomorrow. The right-handed pitcher, Taisuke Yamaoka, will start for the Buffaloes. Yamaoka recorded 6-8 with a 2.60 ERA and had no appearances against the Hawks this season. The 41-year-old lefty Tsuyoshi Wada will open for the Hawks. Murakami 's 2-run shot to turn the table

Munetaka Murakami, Triple Crown winner of the regular season with 56 homers, however, homered with two RBI into the left stands off Shintaro Fujinami to turn the table in the third, 2-1. Swallows' shortstop, Hideki Nagaoka, hit a solo shot into the right field seats in the fourth, and a hard hitter, Jose Osuna, smashed a two-run home run two games in a row in the fifth to expand their lead 5-1.

Starter's righty Cy Sneed frequently pitched with a runner but allowed seven hits and a run over 5 2/3 innings. The righty didn't allow a winning blow.

Tigers have a double-digit hit, but...

The Tigers had eleven hits more than the Swallows, with seven in two consecutive games. But, they were not able to make profitable use of their chances. The Tigers' starting pitcher, Shintaro Fujinami, gave up two hits, four walks, and two runs, striking out four in three frames. The homer from Murakami he allowed in the third changed the game's direction. 21-year-old hopeful righty Junya Nishi, who relieved Fujinami from the fourth, was hit the two shots from Nagaoka and Osuna and could not change the tide.

The final match of the first stage of the Central League Climax Series between the Yokohama Bay Stars and Hanshin Tigers was held at Yokohama Stadium on October 10. The Tigers took a close game, 3-2, to clinch the final stage berth with a 2-1 win-loss record of the stage.

Tigers' starter, Hiroto Saiki, allowed the game's first run with a solo homer from Bay Stars' former batting champion, Toshiro Miyazaki, in the second, 0-1. Saiki threw a wild pitch in the following inning, giving up the third baserunner to score 0-2.

The Bay Stars advantageously developed the game in the early portion.

The Tigers, however, came back to score a run with a solo home run over the center fence of the second-year slugger, Teruaki Sato, in the fourth, 1-2. And, too, they made a chance with a runner on second and no outs in which the 2021 league hit leader, Koji Chikamoto, hit a game-tying double off the right fence. The second match between the Yokohama DeNA Bay Stars and the Hanshin Tigers in the first stage of the Climax Series was held at Yokohama Stadium on October 8. The Bay Stars took the second, 1-0, to tie the Tigers.

The Bay Stars' shortstop, Yamato, hit a tie-breaking single to the center fielder to score first, 1-0, in a situation with runners on first, second base, and no outs in the fifth. It was the only run of the game for both teams.

The Bay Stars' starting pitcher, Shinichi Ohnuki, pitched 6 1/3 strong innings, striking out ten to save his team, which could not lose anymore. Reliever, Hiromu Ise, and closer, Yasuaki Yamasaki, threw a no-hitter in the rest of the innings after Ohnuki.

The Tigers' lefty, Masashi Ito, also pitched well, with one run in five innings. The Tigers' pitchers, Junya Nishi and Kyle Keller, had good pitching but could not receive any support from their offense.

The third match to decide a winner will be held at the stadium tomorrow. The winner will meet the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, the Central League season leader, on the final stage to get to the Japan Series.

The second game on the Climax Series' first stage in the Pacific League between the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks and the Saitama Seibu Lions was held at Pay Pay Dome, Fukuoka, Japan, on October 9. The Hawks had two straight wins over the Lions 8-2 to advance to the final stage.

Hawks batters actively hit eleven and scored eight runs. Hawks Slugger, Yuki Yanagita, crushed a grand slam to score first in the third, with which he hit a homer two games in a row. Takuya Kai hit two RBI singles.

The Hawks starter, Nao Higashihama, who pitched a no-hitter this season, allowed four hits and a run in five strong frames, and four relievers finished up.

The Lions slugger, Hotaka Yamakawa, a home run leader with 41 homers in the Pacific League this season, homered in the last inning, but it didn't make sense by a large margin.

The victory brought the Hawks an eighteen-game winning streak in the postseason.

The Hawks will have the final stage vs. the Orix Buffaloes, the Pacific League Champion, at Kyocera Dome Osaka from October 12 to move on to the Japan Series.

The NPB playoffs have opened. The first game on the Climax Series' first stage in the Pacific League between the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks and the Saitama Seibu Lions was held at Pay Pay dome, Fukuoka, Japan, on October 8. The Hawks took the game, 5-3, to need one more win to advance to the final stage.

Hawks slugger, Yuki Yanagita, hit a three-run shot to expand their lead, 4-0, after scoring the first run in the third. Their ace, Kodai Senga, started the game. The righty gave up four hits and three runs and struck out eleven over eight solid innings to play his role.

Lions starting pitcher, Kona Takahashi, allowed five runs in six frames. Their batters couldn't handle Senga, although Tomoya Mori belted a solo shot.

The first match between the Yokohama DeNA Bay Stars and the Hanshin Tigers in the first stage of the Climax Series was held at Yokohama Stadium on October 8. The Tigers beat the Bay Stars, 2-0 to be a game-win away from the final stage.

The Tigers made a chance with bases loaded and one out in the fifth, and Koji Chikamoto hit a tie-breaking single with two RBIs off the Bay Stars ace, Shota Imanaga, 2-0.

The Tigers' ace sidearmer, Koyo Aoyagi, had his fourth appearance in the Climax Series and gave up four hits and no runs over six strong innings to earn his first series win. Aoyagi also hit a chance-making single in the fifth. Aoyagi and four relievers combined on a shutout.

The Bay Stars stacked their lineup with six left-handed hitters for Aoyagi. They, however, didn't work very well.

He has ranked second in Japanese professional history so far. Murakami-san has tied a historical player, Sadaharu Oh, whose career home-run record was eight-hundred sixty-eight. Murakami-san is chasing the single-season home-run record in Japan. It's No. Sixty that Valentine made in twenty-thirteen. I will estimate how many homers Murakami-san hit this season. The left-handed batter began his streak with a solo shot at Koshien Stadium on August 1. Murakami started the game vs. the Tigers as a third baseman and batting fourth. He hit a solo homer as the first one off the Tigers' lefty, Yudai Watanabe, into the left-field stands to make the game 1-2 in the seventh inning. The second was a game-tying home run into the right-field stands in the ninth to bring the game into the extra inning. In the eleventh, he had a go-ahead homer with two RBIs into the left-field stands to win the game, 4-2.

After a day off, the 22-year-old player kept in reasonable condition on August 3. Murakami, who started the game against the Dragons at Jingu Stadium, shot a solo homer into the right-field stands as the fourth off the Dragons' ace, Yuya Yanagi, at his first at-bat in the first. He tied the NPB record with a four-at-bat homer streak at this time. Finally, Murakami slugged the fifth homer with 2 RBIs into the left-center field stands in his second at-bat in the third to make the new record in NPB.
In his third at-bat, he hit a double, although his streak stopped.

Yamakawa is a No.1 slugger in the Pacific League.

He is achieving No.200 homer with one more homer within the next 17 games, which is at the fastest pace among Japanese players in NPB history. His hitting performance earned the MVP and home run king titles. He is a possible player to achieve the triple crown.

Kazuma Okamoto;
Okamoto is a powerful batter in the Central League. Okamoto hit more than 30 homers for the 4th straight year from 2018 to 2021.

It was almost 2 perfect games in a row. It was Incredible.Although he is just 20 years old, he is already historical.

Kodai Senga
Kodai Senga joined the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks as a developmental player in 2010 who was not a player by an official draft. However, now he has become the highest-paid player as a pitcher in the NPB. He made his Japanese baseball dream come true. His forkball is nasty. It is called the Gohst fork, in Japanese, It is called OBAKE fork. He should throw it in the MLB. I expect he will try the MLB next season.

The representatives meeting of all 12 professional baseball clubs has held in Tokyo on March 9 JST. It has decided to postpone an opening day of NPB. It was originally March 30. Nothing has decided except the postponement.

After the meeting, NPB commissioner, Saito, said,” The Firm teams will have matches without prospectors until the end of March. The first teams will aim to start the season during April. Now the number of people infected with new coronavirus is increasing more and more.”

The second meeting of the Liaison Committee Regarding Countermeasure with NPB and J League held today as well. Experts recommended that NPB’s opening day be put off.

NPBの１２球団代表者会議が日本時間３月９日に東京で開催され、３月２０日に予定されていた日本プロ野球の開幕日が延期されることが決まった。開幕の延期が決まった以外は未定だ。

会議後、NPBのコミッショナーの斎藤氏は、「２軍は、3月いっぱい無観客試合を行う。１軍は4月中の開幕を目指す。今、新型コロナウィルスの感染者数はどんどん増えている。」と話した。

NPBとJリーグで組織する新型コロナウィルス対策連絡会議の第２回会議が事前に行われ、専門家から開幕日の延期が望ましいとの提言を受けていた。

NPB Cooperate with J League to Fight New Coronavirus
NPBがJリーグと共同で新型コロナウィルス対策

NPB and J League announced at a press conference on March 2, JST that they have Jointly established the Liaison Committee Regarding Countermeasure for New Coronavirus. J League is a Japanese professional soccer league.

They will share information and countermeasures by having several experts and summarize an opinion by the middle of March. Both baseball and soccer are very popular sports in Japan. Now when spreading of New coronavirus is significantly concerned, both big sports associations work together to prevent from spreading. Also, they add those concerned with other sports to the committee as observers. And, the contents of the meeting will be disclosed on the day.

NPB has already decided on February 26 that all remaining 72 exhibition games and spring educational league games are without spectators. J League has also decided on February 25 to postpone its 94 official games scheduled by March 15.

NPB’s official games are scheduled to start on March 20 and J League wants to restart their official games from March 18. But, they probably have no idea so far about what is going on.

NPB has announced on February 26, Wednesday JST that we have decided to hold all 72 remaining exhibition games and spring educational league games without spectators due to new coronavirus.

NPB commissioner, Atsushi Saito, commented, “We have to do what we can do to prevent the infection from spreading. I am very sorry to have a very hard decision when we consider baseball fans.”

The Seibu Lions Star pitcher, Daisuke Matsuzaka, took the mound as a starter in a practice game against the Doosan Bears of KPB at Sun Marine Stadium Miyazaki on February 25, Tuesday JST.

As a result, Matsuzaka gave up 3 hits including a homer and 2 ERs in a frame and he was not himself.

A hitter, who hit a homer off him was a player, who had an MVP last season in KPB. The former Red Sox pitcher threw a straight ball with 87 mph to the left-handed hitter and was hit the homer to right field by him.

The 39-year-old said about today’s pitching, “Nothing in particular today. My bad ball produced a bad result. I pitched that ball which could be hit. About the home run, I will not pitch that high ball to be out of the strike zone during a regular season.

Matsuzaka still expects to be a starting roster and will have a chance to throw with the first team.

西武のスター投手、松坂大輔投手が、日本時間２５日（火）、サンマリンスタジアム宮崎で行われた斗山ベアーズとの練習試合で先発登板した。

結果から行くと、１イニングを投げ、１本塁打含む被安打３の２失点と納得のいく内容ではなかった。

本塁打を打たれた打者は、昨シーズン韓国リーグMVPを獲得した選手。１４０キロの内角高めの直球をサイトスタンド上段へ運ばれた。

今日の投球について、松坂投手は、「今日は特にない。悪いボールがそのまま結果になった。あのボールを打たれるはずがない、というわけではない。ホームランを打たれたところも、シーズン中ならああいう外し方はしない」（日刊スポーツより抜粋）と反省した。

ただ、先発ローテーションに期待されており、今後も一軍に帯同し、投球を重ねていく予定だ。

Nippon Professional Baseball and all professional clubs have confirmed on February 21, JST that All 12 clubs will take mutual measures against new coronavirus. Japanese media reported on February 22 JST.

A Secretary-General of NPB, Atsushi Ihara commented, “It is the measures all teams refer to”, and “We don’t think of cancellation of the official games and games without spectators.

Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan has stated “Message to people regarding holding of events” on February 20. It is stating that we don’t require across-the-board refraining from events at present but hope to reconsider the necessity of events. The NPB confirmation is to deal with the message.

All clubs will cancel their fan services, requesting coughing etiquette, and refraining from cheering with jet balloons to their fans.

日本野球機構と１２球団は、日本時間２１日、１２球団共通で新型コロナウィルス対策を行なっていくことを確認した。日本の複数のメディアが伝えた。

日本野球機構の井原敦事務局長は、「１２球団で参考にして頂くもの」として、無客試合や中止は考えていない意向を示した。

厚生労働省は、２０日、「イベントの開催に関する国民の皆様へのメッセージ」と題し、現時点で政府として一律の自粛要請を行うものではないとしながらも感染拡大の防止のため、開催の必要性を改めて検討して欲しい旨のメッセージを発出した。これに対応する形で、今回の対応につながったもの。

日本代表チームの守護神、山崎康晃投手、左手首に打球受ける

A batted ball hit Yasuaki Yamasaki, who is a closer of the Bay Stars of NPB and Japan’s national team, in a practice game vs. the Chiba Lotte Marines at Ginowan, Okinawa on February 19.

Yamasaki took the mound in the ninth as a closer. He received the line-drive batted ball by the Marines hitter, Koki Fukuda to his left wrist just after he had the first out. The closer picked up the ball and threw it to the first baseman to get the second out. But, he left the mound to be on the safe side.

According to the Nikkan Sports, he cooled his left wrist and went back to his hotel. He did not go to the hospital. The Bay Stars manager, Ramirez commented, “I think he will not be so serious.”

The-27-year-old righty is expected as Japan team’s closer on Tokyo Olympic 2020 this summer. He contributed to the victory of Premier 12 last November and had the most saves title in Central League over the past two seasons.

At this stage of the season, Yamasaki, who has had good results in his NPB career, doesn’t need to overdo at all. I hope he has enough time to heal.

横浜DeNA及び日本代表チームの守護神である山崎康晃投手に打球が直撃した。横浜DeNAベイスターズは、日本時間２月１９日に沖縄・宜野湾で千葉ロッテマリーンズと練習試合を行った。

山崎投手は、９回にクローザーとして登板。１死後から、次打者・福田光輝選手のライナー性の打球が左手首に直撃した。直後、弾いたボールを拾い、一塁に送球し、アウトをとったものの、大事をとって降板した。

日刊スポーツの報道によると、山崎投手は病院にはいかず、アイシングをして宿舎に戻ったという。ラミレス監督は、「そこまで重症にはならないと思う」と話した。

山崎投手は、今夏、オリンピック日本代表チームのクローザーとしても期待されている若手右腕。昨年１１月に行われたプレミア１２でも日本チームの優勝に貢献。また過去２シーズン連続してセントラル・リーグ最多セーブを記録している。

現時点では実績のある山崎投手は無理をする時期では全くないので、幸い大事には至らないようだが、しっかりと回復を待って欲しいと願っている。

期待の星、根尾昂選手が２本の三塁打

The Chunichi Dragons infielder, Akira Neo, hit two triples in two consecutive at-bats in a practice match against the Hiroshima Toyo Carp at Chatan, Okinawa on February 15, Sunday JST.

The 19-year-old participated in the match in the five as a shortstop and he tripled on a fry ball to the right-center field off Kuri in the six. He also hit a triple on a fly ball to left field off Kemuna with an RBI.

Neo looked back at his first at-bat, “Opponent’s pitchers won’t use caution of me if I don’t try to swing very strongly.” About his second at-bat, “It was good because I understood the wind direction.”

But he failed to catch a fly ball behind shortstop and then made a throwing error to second base by which the hitter ran to second. He reflected on himself, “I needed to be down the wind. Something like that play will make in a bad mood.”

The hopeful player graduated from the Osaka Toin High school with a distinguished record in baseball in which he played as a shortstop and pitcher and won summer and spring Koshien tournaments in the same year. He was the Dragon’s first-round draft pick in 2018. He is very popular.

Neo started late for an injury last season. Therefore, he was with a farm team almost full last-season. He is keeping a good condition with a five-game hitting streak in practice games to get a roster and regular in an opening game.

期待の星、根尾昂選手が２本の三塁打

中日ドラゴンズ期待の若手、根尾昂内野手が、沖縄県・北谷で行われた広島との練習試合で、途中出場し、二打席連続の三塁打を放った。

根尾内野手は５回の守備から試合に出場。６回に回ってきた初打席で、九里から右中間を超える三塁打。８回には１死１塁の場面で、ケムナの直球をレフトオーバーの豪快な三塁打を放ち、打点１も記録した。

今日の第一打席を振り返り、根尾選手は、「振らないと相手も怖がらない。しっかり振ることが自分のスタイルなので」とコメント。第二打席については、「風を頭に入れていたのでよかった」と答えた。

しかし、６回の守備ではショート後方のフライを落球し、そのあとの２塁への送球も悪送球となり、打者の２塁への進塁を許す場面もあった。「もっと風下に入ればよかった。あんなプレーをしていたら流れを悪くしてしまう」と反省した。

根尾選手は、昨年、ドラフト１位で入団した走攻守三拍子揃った左打者。高校時代は名門の大阪桐蔭高校で、甲子園春夏連覇に貢献した人気選手だ。

昨シーズンは怪我で出遅れ、ほぼ二軍生活が続いたが、今季は開幕一軍そしてレギュラー奪取に向けて、実戦では５試合連続安打と好調を維持している。

Who Is a Big Rookie, Rouki Sasaki?
ビッグルーキー、佐々木朗希とは？

There is an 18-year-old, rookie pitcher, who is attracting the most attention. His name is Rouki Sasaki, who pitched a remarkable fastball whose velocity is 101 mph which was the fastest record in Japanese high school baseball history. And his velocity is the second-fastest even in Japanese professional baseball. The fastest velocity is 103 mph recorded by Shohei Ohtani in 2016.

The right-handed pitcher joined the Chiba Lotte Marines of NPB at the top of the draft list. He is now in spring training in Ishigaki, Okinawa.

Japanese high school baseball, as well as professional baseball, is very popular in Japan. The national tournaments take place at Koshien Stadium which is one of the most traditional ballparks, twice a year, spring and summer. High school players aim at playing at Koshien in their high school days. Two TV stations enthusiastically broadcast all games in the two Koshien tournaments annually.

Unfortunately, the rookie could not participate in the tournaments. But, he rated as the best from professional scouts. Many baseball fans would expect he goes to Major League someday.

Sasaki is 6’ 4’’ and 187 Ib. He takes advantage of his height, long arms, and legs to throw fastballs.

He is pitching gradually in the bullpen. So many fans, media, sometimes, opponent’s players come to see him. But, the young star doesn’t mind them at all. It is evident he is a big rookie. However, I hope that he will not get injured.

ビッグルーキー、佐々木朗希とは？

日本プロ野球に最も注目される１８歳のルーキーがいる。高校日本歴代最速となる１６３キロの速球を記録した佐々木郎希投手だ。プロ野球界を入れても、歴代史上２位の速さだ。ちなみにプロ野球界歴代最速は２０１６年に大谷翔平投手が記録した１６５キロだ。

佐々木投手は昨年のドラフトで千葉ロッテマリーンズにドラフト１位指名を受けて、現在は、石垣島キャンプでプロ最初のキャンプに挑んでいる。

日本ではプロ野球と並び、高校野球は人気スポーツの一つだ。毎年、春と夏に伝統のある甲子園球場で全国大会が行われる。全国の高校球児はその大会への出場を目標に高校生活を送っている。日本のテレビ局のNHKやABCは全試合を中継する熱の入れようだ。

残念ながら佐々木投手は甲子園出場はならなかったが、高校球界ナンバーワンの呼び声が高かった。佐々木投手は日本プロ野球で活躍した後には、メジャーリーグ移籍も視野に入る有望な選手だ。身長１９０センチ、体重８５キロの恵まれた体格から、長い手足を生かしたフォームでキレの良い速球を投げ込む。

現在、ブルペンでのピッチングを少しづつ始めている段階だが、多くの報道陣、ファンそして相手チームの選手までもこぞって見学に訪れている。

本人は素っ気なく淡々と練習をこなしており、それがビッグルーキーである所以でもある。怪我だけには注意して欲しいものだ。

Historical Baseball Star Katsuya Nomura Passed Away at 84
野球界の歴史的スター、野村克也氏（84歳）死去

Japanese baseball lost a giant star. Katsuya Nomura, who used to be a great player and manager, passed away for ischemic heart failure on February 11, Tuesday JST. He was 84.

Nomura was born in 1935 in Kyoto. He joined the Nankai Hawks (current Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks) as a test player after his graduation from the Mineyama High school. He played as a professional baseball slugger and catcher for twenty-six years. (for the Nankai for twenty-three years, the Lotte for a year and the Seibu for two years. ) Notably, he fulfilled his mission as a playing manager for the last eight seasons for the Hawks.

Throughout his professional career, in his 3017 game appearances(2nd-most), he went .277 with 2901 hits(2nd-most), 657 homers(2nd-most) and left numerous historical records. Also, he earned a leading hitter, most hits, nine times most homers, seven times most RBIs. Nomura, especially, had the most homers for eight years in a row and the most RBIs for six years in a row. The great slugger was the first player to win the triple crown(AV, HR, RBI) since World War II. He, also, had a five-time MVP, nineteen-time Best Nine, and twenty-one-time All-Star nomination.

Nomura retired from professional baseball in 1980 and then he worked as a baseball commentator with his originality. He was inducted into the Japanese Hall of Fame in 1989.

Additionally, He managed four clubs( the Hawks, Yakult Swallows, Hanshin Tigers, and Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles) throughout his 24 managerial career seasons including the playing manager of the Hawks. He led the two teams to League Championship and brought three-time Japan Series Championship to the Swallows. Although the Hanshin and Rakuten could not win any championship, it is said that Nomura laid the foundation for subsequent Championships.

As characteristics of Nomura’s baseball, there is a baseball using brain meaning important data which is called “ID baseball.” He had a policy that a weak team can beat a strong team by making necessary preparations. The Swallows, who was a weak team at that time, was able to have a three-time Japan Series championship with him.

Nomura made many players, who were discharge notice and declined in ability, reproduce. His amazing skill is called “Nomura’s recycling factory.”
The skipper had many “pupils” such as former Swallows manager, Atsuya Furuta, Current Swallows manager, Shingo Takatsu, former Tigers outfielder, Tsuyoshi Shinjo, former Rakuten pitcher and current New York Yankees pitcher, Masahiro Tanaka, and former Rakuten slugger, Takeshi Yamasaki. He had 1565(fifth most)-1563 with 76 ties as a manager.

Nomura’s long-term contributions to baseball can not be overestimated. He had a lot of literary works to which many baseball players and business people are referring. With the news of his death, all of Japan has been engulfed by grief.
Many people, who were involved in baseball including former Yomiuri sluggers, Sadaharu Oh and Shigeo Nagashima, who used to be two of Nomura’s rivals during their active era, offered a tribute to the memory of the deceased.

“Nomura-ism” will be able to practically apply in many areas including not only baseball but also our lives or businesses. Therefore, they will take over his teaching for good.

I am feeling reverence for his great contribution to baseball and expressing my gratitude. I pray that his soul may rest in peace.

野球界の歴史的スター、野村克也氏（84歳）死去

序文
野球界が偉大な功績を持つ人物を失った。名捕手及び名監督として活躍した野村克也氏が、２月１１日（火）、虚血性心不全のため、亡くなった。８４歳だった。

現役時代
野村氏は、１９３５年京都府出身。京都の峰山高校から１９５４年にテスト生として、南海ホークス（現・福岡ソフトバンクホークス）に入団。南海で２３年間、ロッテで１年間、そして西武で２年間と現役生活２６年にわたり、強打の名捕手として活躍した。南海時代は１９７０年から８年間は選手兼任監督として手腕を発揮した。

現役時代の成績は、３０１７試合（歴代２位）に出場し、打率.２７７、２９０１安打（歴代２位）、１，９８８打点（歴代２位）、６５７本塁打（歴代２位）など、数々の傑出した記録を残した。また、パシフィックリーグで首位打者１回、最多安打１回、本塁打王９回、打点王７回を獲得。そのうち、本塁打王は１９６１年から８年連続、打点王は１９６２年から６年連続という金字塔を打ち立てた。さらに、１９６５年には戦後初の三冠王にも輝いた。またMVPは５度獲得、ベストナインは実に１９度獲得し、オールスターには２１度選出された。

解説者時代と殿堂入り
１９８０年に現役を引退して以降は、独特の目線を持った野球解説で人気を博した。１９８９年には野球殿堂入りを果たした。

監督時代
監督として、選手兼任監督を含めて２４シーズンで南海ホークス、ヤクルトスワローズ、阪神タイガース、東北楽天ゴールデンイーグルスを率いた。その間、リーグ優勝５回、日本一３回の成績を残した。阪神、楽天では優勝はなかったものの、野村氏の後任監督でそれぞれリーグ優勝や日本一を獲得しており、野村氏がチーム強化の礎を築いたとして評価されている。特に頭を使う野球、いわゆるI D野球を掲げ、しっかりと準備することで弱小チームが常勝チームに勝つことを目指し、当時弱小だったヤクルトスワローズを３度の日本一に導いた。

また戦力外の選手らを教育し、活躍させる手法は、「野村再生工場」と呼ばれ、力の落ちかかった多くの選手を再起させた。元ヤクルト監督の古田敦也氏、現ヤクルト監督の高津臣吾氏、元阪神の外野手、新庄剛志氏、元楽天で現ニューヨークヤンキースの田中将大投手、元楽天の山崎武司氏ら野村氏の監督時代の教え子は多数。監督通算成績は、１５６５勝（歴代５位）１５６３敗７６引き分け。

終わりに
選手そして監督として野村氏の野球界に与えた功績は計り知れない。野村氏は著書も多数執筆しており、多くの選手が自己のプレーの参考にしている。１１日午前に訃報の一報が駆け巡ると、日本野球界は驚きと悲しみに包まれた。野村氏の現役時代のライバルだった元巨人の王貞治氏や同じく元巨人の長嶋茂雄氏ら多くの球界関係者が追悼のコメントを寄せた。

野村氏の教えは、野球だけではなく社会人としても応用できる教訓が多く、多くの野球関係者及び野球ファンの心に残り続けるだろう。野村氏の野球界への功績に尊敬の念と感謝の意を表しますと同時に、心より、ご冥福をお祈りいたします。どうか安らかに。

Ohtani Generation’s Fujinami Starts Well
大谷世代の藤浪投手が好調なスタート

Japanese popular team, the Hanshin Tigers, Today(Feb 9), had a practice match vs. the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters at Ginoza, in Okinawa prefecture. The Tigers’ well-known pitcher, Shintaro Fujinami, gathered attention for his condition.

Fujinami graduated from the Osaka Toin High school having a high-ranking baseball club with which he won both the spring and summer’s national wide High school baseball tournaments held in the Koshien stadium as a ace pitcher.

In Japan, High school baseball as well as professional baseball is a very popular sport. Playing in the Koshien stadium is a big dream for the players among which winning both tournaments is a brilliant achievement.

The 25-years-old righty joined the Hanshin Tigers as its first round draft pick player in 2012. The hopeful pitcher make a professional debut in 2013, and since then, he had his double-digits wins for three years in a row. However, his weak point was his control because he recorded the worst Hit-by-pitch and base-on-balls in the Central League in 2015. His fastballs to right-handed-hitters have been especially getting worse since that time. He, therefore, had only a game appearance last season.

Fujinami followed Masahiro Yamamoto, who was a notable pitcher with the Chunichi Dragons, as his coach during fall training after regular season. He worked hard on changing his form with Yamamoto.

Today, the struggling pitcher had no hit and no run in 2 frames as a starter. His fastest ball velocity was about 98 mph (157km/h). He totally pitched well.

Since his joining in professional field as a amazingly hopeful player, he went 50-40 with a 3.25 ERA whose records are unsatisfying. Many fans would have though that he would became a Major Leaguer in several years in Japan.

This season is his back to the wall. He is the same age as the Los Angeles Angels Star, Shohei Ohtani, who used to be his rival. I hope that Fujinami will succeed this season, if possible, more than Ohtani.

大谷世代の藤浪投手が好調なスタート

今日、沖縄県宜野座で阪神タイガースは、北海道日本ハムファイターズと練習試合を行なった。その中で注目されたのは藤浪慎太郎投手の状態だ。

藤浪投手は、高校野球の名門、大阪桐蔭高校出身で、高校時代、エース投手として甲子園春夏連覇を達成した。日本ではプロ野球と並んで、高校野球も人気スポーツで、甲子園の春夏連覇はとてつもない偉業だ。

現在、２５歳の右投手の藤浪投手は２０１２年に阪神にドラフト１位で入団した。プロデビューした２０１３年から3年連続二桁勝利をあげる一方で、２０１５年には与四死球ともにリーグワーストを記録するなどして２０１６年頃からコントロールを中心に不調に陥った。右打者に抜ける直球で四死球が増加し、２０１９年には一軍出場は1試合のみというところまで悪化していった。

昨秋のキャンプでは、元中日のエース左腕の山本昌広氏をコーチに仰ぎ、ピッチングフォームの改善に務めてきた。

今日、行われた試合では、藤浪投手は２回を投げて、無安打２四球の無失点。最速は１５７キロを記録し、好投を見せた。

プロ野球界期待の星として入団して以降、7年間の成績は、１２８試合に登板し、５０勝４０敗防御率３.２５と物足りなさが残る。多くのファンは日本で５、６年したら、メジャーリーガーになるだろうと思っていただろう。

背水の陣として挑む、今シーズン、ライバルの大谷投手より活躍してもらいたいと願っている。

Former Seattle Mariners catcher, Kenji Jojima, is now a Special Advisor to the chairman of the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks of NPB with which he played before joining the Mariners. Jojima is now with the Hawks to teach to the players in Spring Camp in Miyazaki City.

The Hawks have a notable catcher, Takuya Kai. Kai has one of the best catchers in NPB and has a special success story in Japanese baseball. The

The 27-year-old was originally the Hawks' six-round developmental draft pick in 2010 which is not a typical draft. Sometimes Japanese professional clubs name potential players whose skills are lower than the typical draft pick players.

Kai has a very strong shoulder and high speed to throw to the second base. Also by making so much effort, he has finally become a regular player in the main team from 2017.

The catcher has earned two All-Star Game nominations(2018,2019), three Golden Glove Awards(2017-2019), a Best-Nine(2017), a Japan Series MVP(2018) And he recorded the highest caught-stealing rate with .447 in 2018.

Jojima said at the press, “His shoulder is valuable defensive power. His throwing is a very high level. His control to the second base is really accurate. It’s very impressive,” according to the Nishinippon Sports.

Kai, who is praised by former Major League player, is expected by not only the team, but also Japan’s Olympic team this season.

ホークスには、甲斐拓也選手という素晴らしい捕手がいる。日本を代表する捕手の一人だ。彼は日本の野球界で特別なサクセスストーリーを持っている。

現在、２７歳の甲斐選手は元々、通常のドラフトとは違う２０１０年の育成ドラフト６位指名の選手だった。時折、日本のプロ球団は、通常のドラフトでは指名できないような、スキルの劣る選手をそのポテンシャルを見て育成選手として指名することがある。

甲斐選手は非常に強い肩と２塁への早い送球ができる選手で、類い稀な努力の結果、２０１７年についに一軍のレギュラーをつかんだ。

レギュラーを掴むどころか、彼は、２度のオールスター選出、３度のゴールデングラブ賞受賞、１度のベストナイン獲得に加え、２０１８年には日本シリーズMVPを獲得している。またその２０１８年にはパ・リーグ盗塁阻止率１位（.447）を記録した。

城島氏はそんな甲斐選手について記者団にこう話す。「彼の肩（の強さ）は貴重な守りの戦力。送球技術のレベルも非常に高い。２塁への送球コントロールは本当に正確だ。非常に素晴らしい捕手だ。」

All 12 NPB clubs are starting their Spring Training in the southwest of Japan, Today. The training will take place until the middle or end of February. Some teams have practical matches against Korean professional teams and Taiwanese professional teams during the training.
