 The Angels avoided a four-game series sweep with a 4-3 win against the Mariners. Calhoun hit a go-ahead homer off Nick Vincent to break a 3-3 in the seventh after a 25-at-bats hitless streak. Justin Upton had a three-run homer, his 30th of the season in his third straight game to turn the tables in the 3rd. Upton marked at least 30 homers in his three seasons in a row. Two way star, Shohei Ohtani went 0-for-3 with 1 R with which his batting average was slightly down to 290.  

About the offense of Seattle, Mitch Haniger hit a lead-off double to bring Dee Gordon to home. In the 4th just after allowing a 1-3 lead, rookie first baseman Daniel Vogelbach hit a two-run home run off Jaime Barria to tie the game. But, they couldn’t have any run since the homer. 

About the defense of Seattle, this game’s starter, Marco Gonzalez allowed 
3 runs on 6 hits in five frames, struck out six and walked two. Shawn Armstrong and Adam Warren each pitched a scoreless inning, the sixth and eighth.  M’s relievers played an active part in the series overall, although Nick Vincent gave up a solo homer to Justin Upton in the seventh.     

The Mariners still remain 7 1/2 games back of the Athletics for the American League second Wild Card zone at 82-67. On the other hand, the Astros’s elimination number is now two in the AL West race as they won the game over Diamondbacks at the same day. Seattle is going to head to head in a three-game set against Houston from tomorrow at Minute Maid Park, Houston, Texas.
