The Seattle Mariners have announced on February 20 local time that Ichiro Suzuki, Special Assistant to the chairman and instructor, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Opening Day on March 26 against the Texas Rangers at T-Mobile Park. 

Mariners legend, Ichiro, is serving a variety of functions such as defense in the outfield for batting practice, coaching base running, fungo, batting pitcher and so on. 

The Mariners often upload short movies in which Ichiro wearing a No.51 uniform, is doing a fungo, having pitching practice, batting pitchers, etc. He is sharply showing his play just like an active player. 

Ichiro has been experienced in pithing in an official MLB game with Marlines in 2015. The right-handed pitcher took the mound in the game against the Phillies in the eighth in which he gave up two hits and an earned run. 

Ichiro, originally, was a pitcher in his high school days and participated in the national tournament held in Koshien Stadium as an ace pitcher. 

Also, the pitcher had a complete sandlot baseball game last December. He still has a talent for pitching and batting power. 

March 26 is a special day for the Mariners fans, who can see Ichiro as a pitcher. We are looking forward to his pitching. He will never cut corners at it.

シアトル・マリナーズは、現地時間２月２０日に３月２６日にT-Mobileパークで行われる今季開幕戦の始球式をイチロー会長付特別補佐兼インストラクターが行うことを発表した。

イチロー氏は、現在、アリゾナ州ピオリアで行われている春季キャンプに帯同し、多くの役割をこなしている。フリーバッティングの外野守備、ノッカー、ベースランニングの指導、バッティングピッチャーなどだ。

球団でのツイッターでは、イチロー氏が積極的にピッチングをしたり、バッティングピッチャーをしたり、ノックをしたりする様子がアップされており、背番号５１のユニフォーム姿で現役さながらのキレのいい動きを見せてくれている。

イチロー氏は、過去、マーリンズ時代に公式戦に投手として登板した経験がある。２０１５年に消化試合となったフィリーズ戦で８回裏から登板し、１イニングを投げて、被安打２の１失点だった。

元々、イチロー氏は、高校時代に愛工大名電でエース投手として甲子園出場するなど、投打に渡る才能を発揮していた。

また、昨年、１２月には草野球の試合で１試合を完投するなど、まだまだエネルギッシュな姿を見せた。

３月２６日の開幕戦始球式。いまだ手を抜かない野球人生を送っているイチロー氏がどんな１球を投げるのか、今から楽しみだ。
