• M’s three relievers who take over the mound from James Paxton, kept scoreless from the seventh to the ninth. 

         Ryan Cook in the seventh (IP 1.0) with no-hit and 2 SOs.
         Adam Warren in the eighth (IP 1.0) with no-hit.
         Chases Bradford in the ninth (IP 1.0) with a hit and a SOs. 

• Mitch Haniger went 0-for-4 by which his hitting streak stopped at 17 games, but the record was tied for the fourth longest in the season of the MLB. 

🎙HIDE’s COMMENTS;
  Tanaka dominated the series opener. Japanese right hander who amazingly pitched, defeated the Mariners with a eight-scoreless inning and his season-high 10 strikeouts. The Yankees kept 3.5 games lead over the Athletics for the AL first wild card by a victory of the right hand pitcher. 

  The Mariners with just 3 hits and 10 strikeouts, could not hit Tanaka’s effective split-finger fastball. Tanaka improved to 7-0 in eight career start against Seattle. 

  James Paxton had his 100th memorial start of his MLB career tonight and was not so bad with just five hits, a walk in six frames. But, the light hand pitcher regret giving up two two-run homers of five hits by which the Mariners lost four runs and Tanaka was given early support. 

It was, however, doubtful that Seattle could beat NYY without giving two two-run because Tanaka’s pitching was too good.
Mariners manager, Scott Servais said with an acceptable defeat,  “he just didn't miss. He used all four quadrants of the strike zone with his fastball and had the really good splitfinger going. You have to tip your cap to him. That was a dominant performance.”

Robinson Cano also said, "He never throws you a ball down the middle. He always throws everything in the bottom part of the zone. As a hitter, it's hard, you don't know if it's his fastball or his splitter." 

There was nothing for it tonight. They have to sweep the stresses of this game. 

About the American League Wild card race, this loss put Seattle in a severe situation to get the second WC as Oakland which is the 2nd place in the race, had a victory over Texas. Oakland expanded to 6.5 games over Seattle for the second WC. 

Next starter is Felix Hernandez(8-11). King Felix has not won  any game since June 30. The Mariners must have a won of a struggling right hand ace to seek a slight chance of the WC.
