Japan Team’s Closer Yamasaki Receives A Batted Ball to His Left Wrist 
日本代表チームの守護神、山崎康晃投手、左手首に打球受ける

A batted ball hit Yasuaki Yamasaki, who is a closer of the Bay Stars of NPB and Japan’s national team, in a practice game vs. the Chiba Lotte Marines at Ginowan, Okinawa on February 19. 


Yamasaki took the mound in the ninth as a closer. He received the line-drive batted ball by the Marines hitter, Koki Fukuda to his left wrist just after he had the first out. The closer picked up the ball and threw it to the first baseman to get the second out. But, he left the mound to be on the safe side. 


According to the Nikkan Sports, he cooled his left wrist and went back to his hotel. He did not go to the hospital. The Bay Stars manager, Ramirez commented, “I think he will not be so serious.”


The-27-year-old righty is expected as Japan team’s closer on Tokyo Olympic 2020 this summer. He contributed to the victory of Premier 12 last November and had the most saves title in Central League over the past two seasons. 


At this stage of the season, Yamasaki, who has had good results in his NPB career, doesn’t need to overdo at all. I hope he has enough time to heal.

横浜DeNA及び日本代表チームの守護神である山崎康晃投手に打球が直撃した。横浜DeNAベイスターズは、日本時間２月１９日に沖縄・宜野湾で千葉ロッテマリーンズと練習試合を行った。


山崎投手は、９回にクローザーとして登板。１死後から、次打者・福田光輝選手のライナー性の打球が左手首に直撃した。直後、弾いたボールを拾い、一塁に送球し、アウトをとったものの、大事をとって降板した。


日刊スポーツの報道によると、山崎投手は病院にはいかず、アイシングをして宿舎に戻ったという。ラミレス監督は、「そこまで重症にはならないと思う」と話した。


山崎投手は、今夏、オリンピック日本代表チームのクローザーとしても期待されている若手右腕。昨年１１月に行われたプレミア１２でも日本チームの優勝に貢献。また過去２シーズン連続してセントラル・リーグ最多セーブを記録している。


現時点では実績のある山崎投手は無理をする時期では全くないので、幸い大事には至らないようだが、しっかりと回復を待って欲しいと願っている。
