【U18】 Japan had a regrettable walk-off loss vs. the USA, 3-4 -U18Wcup-

Japan had a walk-off loss against the USA, 3-4, in the super round of the 30th WBSC Baseball World Cup on September 18, JST, in Florida, the U.S. The game was resumed at 10:30 pm, JST, as a continuation game.
With a win-loss record of 3-2, Japan became a fourth-place team in the super round and will have a third-place match vs. Korea. The finals are between the USA and Chinese Taipei (Taiwan).

The game was restarted with Japan at bat in the top of the third with bases loaded and no out. Unfortunately, Japan ended up with a scoreless inning, striking out in its three consecutive at-bats Yudai Ebine, Shogo Asano, and Yoshinobu Kuroda. American righty C.Rodriguez, who took the mound from the inning, did well in relief.

Japan's captain Haruto Yamada, who got out of a pinch with bases loaded and no out in the second, stayed in the game, working a 1-2-3 third. Left-handed sidearmer Yusefu Yoshimura retired the three batters in order in three straight innings from the fourth to the sixth.

With Japan's lead 2-3 in the seventh, Yoshimura gave the first batter in the inning a walk and got into a jam with runners on second, third, and no out after third baseman Kai Watabe made a throwing error to first to misplay a bunt. Second baseman Kojun Fujimori, who received a ball from Watabe, threw wildly to third as well. In this situation, Yoshimura surprisingly balked a runner home to tie the game, 3-3, and to make the situation with runner on third and no out. Here, righty Kaito Noda, who relieved Yoshimura, gave up a walk-off single to left field off D.Cupp after taking an out with striking out.

The third place game between Japan and Korea, which beat Japan, 8-0 in the round will be held on September 19, JST, after the finals between the USA and Chinese Taipei (Taiwan).

日本、米国に痛恨のサヨナラ負け

　米国フロリダ州で開催されている第３０回WBSC U１８ベースボールワールドカップのスーパーラウンドで、日本代表は、日本時間１８日午後１０時３０分から米国と継続試合を戦い、３−４でサヨナラ負けした。日本の通算成績は２勝３敗となりスーパーラウンド4位。韓国と３位決定戦を戦うことが決まった。決勝戦は米国とチャイニーズタイペイ（台湾）の組合せになった。

試合は３回表無死満塁の日本の攻撃から再開されたが、日本はこの回から登板した米国の右腕・ロドリゲス投手の見事な投球の前に、海老根優大、浅野翔吾、黒田義信の三者が連続三振に倒れ、好機を活かせず無得点に終わった。

中断前から続投した山田陽翔と左腕・吉村優聖歩が好投

２回に無死満塁のピンチで登板し無失点に抑えた日本の主将、山田陽翔は３回も続投し、三者凡退に抑える好投。後を継いだ左横手投げの吉村優聖歩は４回から６回までの３イニングスを全て三者凡退に打ち取る完全投球を見せた。

最終回の７回、ボークと失策でピンチに

日本が３−２とリードして迎えた７回裏、好投の吉村が先頭打者に四球を許した後、日本の守備が乱れた。次打者の犠打処理を試みた三塁手の渡部海が一塁に悪送球。さらに送球を受けた二塁手の藤森康淳が三進する走者を見て同じく三塁に送球ミス。無死２、３塁の一打サヨナラのピンチに陥った。この場面で、投手の吉村がまさかのボークで三塁走者が生還し３−３の同点に。以前、無死三塁のピンチとなった。ここで、右腕の野田海斗が登板。次打者を三振に仕留め１死とした後、D.Cuppに左前適時打を許し、日本は３−４で痛恨のサヨナラ負けを喫した。

　この敗戦で日本はスーパーラウンドで０−８と大敗した韓国とリベンジをかけて3位決定戦を戦うことが決まった。３位決定戦は米国とチャイニーズタイペイ（台湾）の間で行われる決勝戦後、日本時間９月１９日未明に行われる。
