U18-W-cup: Japan takes a called game to be in the top 4, vs. Netherlands, 1-0

Japan won a called game against the Netherlands, 1-0, because of heavy rain after the bottom of the fifth inning in the super round of the 30th WBSC Baseball World Cup on September 17, JST, in Sarasota, Florida, the United States. The game started after a delay of two hours and fifty-one minutes due to rain and could not be resumed after the fifth. Today's win brought Japan a win-loss record of 2-2 to secure higher than fourth place.

Japan's eighth hitter Kojun Fujimori was on to start the third inning with a bunt single to the first baseman. The ninth batter Yudai Ebine walked to first. The first batter Shogo Asano put down a sacrifice bunt to expand its chance with one out and runners on second and third base. Kojun Fujimori on third base scored a run on a grounder to second of the next batter Yoshinobu Kuroda. Japan had only a hit by Fujimori to connect to the run in the game.

Japan's starter Shiki Kawahara had five solid innings with three hits and no runs, striking out six.

The game was called because of rain after the bottom of the fifth.

日本、オランダに５回降雨コールド勝ちで4位以上が確定

米国フロリダ州で開催されている第３０回WBSC U１８ベースボールワールドカップのスーパーラウンドで、日本代表は、日本時間１７日、オランダと対戦し、１−０で５回終了降雨コールド勝ちした。試合は雨の為、２時間５１分遅れで開始されたが５回終了時点で雨脚が強くなり中断され、再開には至らなかった。日本は通算成績が２勝２敗となり、４位以上が確定した。明日は日本時間５時から米国と対戦する。

　日本は３回、先頭の８番藤森が犠打安打で出塁。９番海老根が四球を選び１、２塁とした後、１番浅野が犠打を決め、１死２、３塁から２番黒田のセカンドゴロの間に藤森が生還し１点を先制した。日本の安打は藤森の犠打安打だけだったが唯一の安打を得点に結びつけた。

　先発した右上手投げの川原は５回を投げて、被安打３の無失点。６三振を奪う終始安定した投球で１点を守った。

　試合は５回裏終了後に降雨で中断しコールドゲームとなり、日本の勝利が決まった。
