2023 WBC: Star player VOL.8: Mookie Betts, Dodgers' best leadoff man, Possible player to join the USA

Today's player is the Los Angeles Dodgers leadoff man, Mookie Betts, who will play for the USA in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

The Boston Red Sox selected Mookie Betts in the fifth round of the 2011 MLB draft and the 172nd pick overall. Betts made his Major League debut with Boston in 2014.

2018 was his magical season winning the American League(AL) MVP. The outfielder marked his batting average of .346 to become the AL batting champion with 129 RBIs to lead the league, lifting the Red Sox to the World Series title. In addition, he had 32 homers and 30 stolen bases to achieve the Triple-Three and received the AL Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Awards.

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired the 2018 MVP winner with former Cy Young Award pitcher David Price and cash from Boston for three prospects in a big trade in February 2020.

In 2020, the shortened season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the notable leadoff man hit .292 with 16 home runs and ten stolen bases and had tremendous fielding to escape jams, contributing to winning the World Series.
