カル・クアンティル投手は当初、2013年のMLBドラフト26巡目でニューヨーク・ヤンキースに指名されたが、契約せず、スタンフォード大学に進学した。その3年後、サンディエゴ・パドレスが2016年MLBドラフト1巡目の全体8位で再び指名し、その時はサインをした。

"Quantrill is a starting pitcher to lead the Guardians. He helped the guardians advance to the playoff in 2022, winning a team-leading and career-high 15 games. The righty had never had a losing game since July 11. Quatrill has five pitches, his sinker and cutter account for about 80% of his total pitches. His big curveball he throws down after making batters aware of the sinker and cutter is very effective.
Along with ace pitcher Shane Bieber, he will be expected to lead a strong Guardians pitching staff in 2023 and beyond."

■Story
Cal Quantrill was initially drafted by the New York Yankees in the 26th round of the 2013 MLB draft. But he didn't sign and entered Stanford University. Three years later, the San Diego Padres again selected him with the 8th overall pick in the first round of the 2016 MLB draft, and he signed that time.

Quantrill, the Padres' No.12 prospect, debuted against the Atlanta Braves on May 1, 2019. He started the game, allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings and striking out three in the Padres' 5-1 loss.
On May 25, the right-hander made his fifth start versus the Toronto Blue Jays, tossing six solid innings with three runs allowed on just two hits to earn his first MLB win. He finished his first season with 6-8, a 5.16 ERA over 23 games, including 18 starts.

On August 31, 2020, before the trading deadline, the 27-year-old was traded by the Padres to the Cleveland Indians in a blockbuster trade. The Canadian starter had his best season in 2022. He concluded 15-5 with a 3.38 ERA in 186.1 frames through 32 starts. The 15 wins ranked 4th in the American League.

Jordan Romano was selected with the 294th overall selection by the Blue Jays in the tenth round of the 2014 MLB draft.

Romano made his major league debut on June 12th, 2019, against the Baltimore Orioles and picked up his first career win on July 24th, 2020, facing the Tampa Bay Rays and collected his first save on August 21st, against the Rays that year.

In 2021, the 29-year-old righty became a closer for the Blue Jays and was 7-1 with a 2.14 ERA across 62 games, striking out 85 batters in 63 innings.

In 2022, the Canadian closer appeared in 63 contests and 64 frames, his career most, and went 5-4 with a 2.11, collecting 36 saves, the third most in the American League.
