Astros with Sign Stealing Are Severely Punished by MLB
サイン盗みのアストロズ、MLBから厳罰

MLB has announced on Jan 13 that they have punished the Houston Astros severely on the sign-stealing practices.

According to the announcement, manager, AJ Hinch and general manager, Jeff Luhnow have been suspended for the whole 2020 season. In addition, former assistant GM, Brandon Taubman has been on baseball’s ineligible list. MLB will also impose a fine of $5 million, which is the maximum amount of MLB constitution, on the club. Furthermore, Houston will be disqualified from its first and second round drafts picks in both the 2020 and 2021.

AJ Hinch did not try to stop the sign stealing even after MLB issued a memo about its policy after the Boston Red Sox had the illegal action with a FitBit in 2017. 

In this case, those penalties will be focused on management, but not players. Astros owner Jim Crane announced on Monday that both Luhnow and Hinch have been fired.

The Astros, however, won’t be forced to cancel the World Series title of 2017.

There is one more thing that the Boston Red Sox’s sign stealing in their 2018 World Series season. MLB will inflict severe punishment on the club and former Astros’ bench coach at that time, Alex Cora after their investigation.

ヒューストン・アストロズのサイン盗み事件で、MLBは、現地時間、１３日、アストロズに大して厳罰を下す内容を発表した。

発表によると、監督のエージェイ・ヒンチとGMのジェフ・ルノーに対して、２０２０年シーズンの完全停職（活動停止）、前GM補佐のブランドン・タウブマンは今後、野球界での就業を禁止される。また、アストロズ球団に対しては、MLB史上最高額となる５００万ドル（約５億５千万円）の罰金が科せられる。さらに、２０２０年と２０２１年のドラフトにおいて、１巡目及び２巡目までの指名権も剥奪されるという厳しい内容となった。
とはいえ、２０１７年のアストロズのワールド・チャンピオンタイトルについては剥奪されないようだ。

ヒンチ氏は、２０１７年にレッドソックスがFitBitを使ってサイン盗みをしていた後、MLBが各チームに注意書を発行したが、自チームのサイン盗みを止めようとはしなかったと見られる。

今回の内容は、マネジメント層への処分であり、選手の処分は回避された模様だ。

またボストン・レッドソックスのサイン盗み疑惑や現レッドソックスの監督で当時、アストロズのベンチコーチだったアレックス・コーラへも今後、何らかの処分が下ると思われる。
