The Blue Jays righty, Shun Yamaguchi, took the second plate in the Grapefruit League. The Toronto Blue Jays had an exhibition match with the Philadelphia Phillies at TD ball park, Florida on February 29 local time. 

Yamaguchi could not escape the first inning last time. But, he could improve much this time. The 32-years-old, allowed just one run, 2 hits, a walk, and had 3 strikeouts in three frames as a starter. 

After the game, Yamaguchi commented, “I wanted to focus on throwing fastballs, lower outside,” Yamaguchi said. “Then, after getting two strikes or ahead in the count, I wanted to throw a splitter. Those are things that I spoke with [catcher Danny] Jansen about before the game.” 

The Japanese pitcher seemed to throw as planned today. 

Reference) Yamaguchi had 64-58 with a 3.75 ERA and 112 saves in 427 game appearances in his 14 NPB seasons.

ブルージェイズの山口俊投手がグレープフルーツリーグで２回目の先発登板を果たした。トロント・ブルージェイズは、現地時間２月２９日に、フロリダ州のTDボールパークでフィラデルフィア・フィリーズとエキシビジョンマッチを行った。

前回先発して１イニングを持たなかった山口俊投手だったが、今回は、本領を発揮した。この日は、３イニングを投げて、被安打２、四球１、失点１。三振は３つ奪った。

試合後、山口投手は、「アウトコース低めの速球に拘った。２ストライクと追い込んでからは、スプリッターを投げたかった。試合前にキャッチャーのダニー・ジャンセンとそう話していた」と話し、想定通りの投球ができたようだった。

参考）山口投手は、NPB１４シーズンで、４２７試合に登板。６４勝５８敗１１２セーブ、防御率３.７５の成績を残している。
