Do You Agree with Robot Umpire?
あなたはロボット審判に賛成？

Major League Baseball will try to test a computerized strike zone during spring training this season. Also, such strike zone technology has already tested in Atlantic League, which is a professional independent baseball league. In the near future, will an era baseball being controlled by the technology be coming?

According to Atlantic League umpires, the technology doesn’t seem to be ready for a perfect practical application so far. Current MLB tends to use data, electric devices, and technology to win games or analyze the players’ data.

I think there will be the pros and cons of the tendency. 

As to the computerized umpire, some baseball fans may disagree with the idea. They may say that erroneous judgments made by umpires are parts of baseball and professional players should adjust to the umpire’s habit.

On the other hand, other fans may agree with the plan because they may strongly want accuracy and fairness regarding their judgments.  

​There are merits and demerits in this argument. Actually, I have no idea if which one is better for baseball at this stage. But, I may like baseball of humans, by humans, for humans, while I want to see the strike zone technology.

メジャーリーグベースボールは、今シーズンのスプリングトレーニングでストライクゾーン判定のコンピューター化をテストする。そのようなストライクゾーンテクノロジーは独立リーグのアトランティックリーグですでにテストされている。近い将来、テクノロジーによって野球が裁かれる時代が来るのだろうか？

アトランティックリーグの審判によると、今のところ、完全に実用化するには至ってないようだ。今のMLBは勝つために、または選手の分析のためにデータ、電子機器、テクノロジーを使う傾向がある。

私はこの傾向には賛否両論があると考えている。

審判のコンピューター化については、反対する野球ファンもいるかもしれない。彼らは、審判のミスジャッジも野球の一部と考え、プロの選手ならば審判にクセに対応すべきと考えるかもしれない。

一方で、賛成するファンもいるだろう。彼らは審判のジャッジに対して、正確性と公平さを強く求めるからだ。

この議論にはメリットとデメリットがある。実際、私もこの段階ではいずれが野球にとって良いのかわからない。しかしながら、ストライクゾーンテクノロジーを見たい一方で、人の人による人のための野球であってほしいとも考えるかもしれない。
