How are Japanese players going to MLB?

Some MLB clubs seem to have an interest with Yoshitomo Tsutsugo, who was posted to the MLB last month, according to Jon Morosi, sports reporter. The group of the teams includes the White Sox, Blue Jays, Tigers, and Twins.

Farmer Mariners’ pitcher from Japan, Kazuhiro Sasaki said on his friend’s SNS a couple of days ago, “Tsutsugo would be available as a good-average-hitter even though he is a slugger in Japan. He is good at hitting to left field as a left-handed batter.”

Sasaki also said about Ryosuke Kikuchi, who was posted this month, “His fielding is very good, but hitting’s evaluation could be low.”
Also, he told that Shun Yamaguchi could be better there because he had a well-sinking ball.
About Shogo Akiyama, “He could be a good-average-hitter as well,” Sasaki said.

In my opinion, Japanese hitters are not highly evaluated in the MLB, except Ichiro Suzuki, Hideki Matsui, and Shohei Ohtani. Current major league baseball seems to put priority on hitting about fielders as it makes widely positional changes about defense based on data, I think. On the other hand, I don’t think that outfielders in the MLB are well. Actually Japanese outfielders can be more steadily defensive and can play to prevent runs given up or get out of pinches.

I still have no idea regarding to their landing point, I am looking forward to good news for them.

The negotiation with Tsutsugo is available until Dec.19 and that of Shun Yamaguchi and Ryosuke Kikuchi is until Jan.2.
Shogo Akiyama is seeking a club as a free agent.

先月にポスティングされた筒香嘉智選手に関して、いくつかのメジャーの球団が関心を持っていると、スポーツレポーターのジョン・モロシ氏が明かしている。それらの球団とは、ホワイトソックス、ブルージェイズ、タイガース、ツインズだそうだ。

投手としてマリナーズでプレーした佐々木主浩氏は、数日前に友人のSNSで今季、メジャーに挑戦している選手らについて発言した。筒香については、「彼は日本ではスラッガーだが、メジャーでは本塁打を捨てれば、良い打率は残せるだろう。左打者として、レフト方向に打つのが上手い。」

菊池涼介内野手については、「守備は一流だが、打撃の評価は低いのではないか」と。
山口俊投手については、「落ちるボールを持っているので有効だろう」と。
秋山翔吾外野手についても、打率は残せるとの評価だ。

私の意見としては、日本人打者は、イチロー、松井秀喜、大谷翔平を除いて、メジャーでの評価は高くない。今のメジャーリーグは野手については打撃を重視している。それは今や、データに基づいて大胆な守備シフトを敷くようになっているからだ。一方で、メジャーの外野手が優れているとは考えていない。実際のところ、日本人外野手の守備はより堅実で、失点を防いだり、ピンチを切り抜ける能力を持っている。

まだ彼らの着地点はわからないが、良いニュースが入ることを楽しみにしている。
筒香選手の交渉期限は12月19日。山口、菊池の両選手の期限は、1月2日。秋山選手はフリーエージェントとして新天地を探している。
