Major Leaguer resume Vol.64 / WBC Player’s resume Vol.50: Nathan Eovaldi (Texas Rangers) : Major Candidate for Team USA: “Stable robot form!”

Story:
Today's player's resume concerns the Texas Rangers' starter, Nathan Eovaldi. Eovaldi elected a free agency from the Boston Red Sox in the 2022 offseason and signed with the Texas Rangers on November 6th, 2022. He is from Houston, Texas, and will commit to Team USA in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

The KAISPO's baseball analyst said,
"Eovaldi throws with a wall(pause) that stabilizes his axis. Although he has a long right arm, his takeback is small, but he gives a ball speed by dropping his weight to the front from an upright position and pushing his arm out widely on release. He has a good command by the wall, whose BB/9 was 1.65 in 2022. On the other hand, he stands still once and then pushes out power, so the latter half of his form can be changed to a power pitching style, which puts a lot of strain on his upper body, including his arm. He has undergone Tommy John surgery twice. He will play for the Rangers from 2023, and I hope he will have a good result and take care of himself."

Nathan Eovaldi was selected by the Los Angeles Angels with the 337th overall selection in the 11th round of the 2008 MLB draft. He has played with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Miami Marlins, the New York Yankees, the Tampa Bay Rays, and the Boston Red Sox.

Eovaldi made his big league debut as a starting pitcher against the Arizona Diamondbacks on August 6th, 2011. In the game, he earned his first career victory, pitching five innings in which he gave up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven to lead the Dodgers to a 5-3 win. He was 1-2 with a 3.63 in 10 contests(6 starts).

In 2014, the 32-year-old righty pitched his career high with 199.2 frames across 33 starts to record 6-14 with a 4.37 ERA for Miami. In 2015, he marked 14-3 with a 4.20 ERA for the Yankees, becoming the American League winning percentage leader at .824. He was the Red Sox' opening game starter in 2020 and 2021. Eovaldi went 11-9 with a 3.75 ERA over 32 starts covering 182.1 innings, striking out 195 in 2021. He was named to All-star for the first time in the year. Because Nathan was placed on the injured list due to inflammation in his lower back and shoulder, he made only 20 starts with a 6-3 record with an ERA of 3.87 in 2022. The right-hander racked up his first career complete game on May 28th, leading the Red Sox to a 5-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

At the end of the 2022 season, the veteran starter has gone 67-68 with a 4.16 ERA through 240 games, including 221 starts covering 1257 2/3 innings, striking out 1060 in his 11 big league seasons.
