Major Leaguer resume Vol.66/WBC Player’s resume Vol.52:Luis Castillo (Seattle Mariners) :Major Candidate for Team Dominican Republic:“100 mph from Spin Pitching Form!”

Story:
Today's player's resume concerns the Seattle Mariners starter, Luis Castillo. He is from the Dominican Republic and will commit to Team Dominican Republic in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

The KAISPO's baseball analyst said,
"Castillo is a starter who joined the Mariners from the Reds in mid-2022. He overpowers hitters by giving a pitched ball fast and sharp movement with his body-spinning pitching style. He produces a 101-mph fastball with a bit of sidearmer, spinning his body. He is expected to lead Seattle starting pitching staff to make the team an all-time winning team."

Castillo signed with the San Francisco Giants as an international free agent on May 31st, 2012. The Giants traded Kendry Flores and him to the Miami Marlins for the third baseman Casey McGehee on December 20th, 2014. He moved to the Cincinnati Reds for a trade on January 19th, 2017.

The right-hander made his major league debut on June 23rd, 2017, as a starting pitcher, throwing 93 pitches over five frames with two earned runs, five hits, five walks allowed, and five strikeouts with no decision in a 6-5 Reds loss to the Washington Nationals. After the game, he joined the Reds' starting rotation and collected his first career win against the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 8th, tossing 6 2/3 innings with three hits and no runs. He went 3-7 with a 3.12 ERA in 15 starts in his first major league year.

The 30-year-old righty started the 2018 season with the Reds' starting rotation and had a 10-12 record with a 4.30 ERA in 31 starts. In 2019, he appeared as a starter in an opening game versus the Pittsburgh Pirates, allowing one run with eight strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings with no decision. He excellently finished the season with a win-loss record of 15-8 with a 3.40 and 226 strikeouts across 32 starts, naming his first All-Star.

The Reds traded Castillo to the Seattle Mariners for four prospects on July 30th, 2022. Castillo marked 4-4 in 14 starts for the Reds and 4-2 over 11 starts for the Mariners, combining 8-6 with a 2.99 ERA in 2022. He started Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series. He pitched 7 1/3 scoreless innings in a 4-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, giving the Mariners their first postseason victory in 21 years.

At the end of the 2022 season, the two-time All-Star has recorded 48-55 with a 3.59 ERA and 937 strikeouts through 148 starts covering 857.2 innings in his six big league career.
