Major Leaguer resume Vol.68 / WBC Player’s resume Vol.54:Luis Severino (New York Yankees) :Major Candidate for Team Dominican Republic:“Slider on Lower Outside Black!”

Story:
Today's player's resume concerns the New York Yankees starter, Luis Severino. He is from the Dominican Republic and could play for Team Dominican Republic in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

The KAISPO's baseball analyst said,
"Severino is a classic-style pitcher who earned double-digit wins and 220+ strikeouts in 2017 and 2018. He can throw a well-spinning slider on the lower outside corner black. In contrast, the righty takes batters by surprise, pitching a 100-mph fastball in a higher zone. He missed all of 2020 due to Tommy John surgery, but his actual velocity and sharpness returned in 2022. Severino will be expected to be the Yanks'ace again to help the team regain the World Championship after 14 years."

Luis Severino signed with the New York Yankees to a minor league contract on May 31, 2012.

The right-hander made his big league debut on August 5, 2015, when he tossed five innings with two hits, walking none, and striking out seven against the Boston Red Sox. Unfortunately, despite his reasonable effort, he had his first career loss as the Yankees were beaten by the Red Sox, 2-1. He picked up his first win by facing the Cleveland Indians on August 22, giving up three hits and one earned run in six frames. He finished his first season with a 5-3 record with a 2.89 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 11 starts.

In 2017, the 28-year-old starter had an excellent season with 14-6 and a 2.98 ERA across 31 starts covering his career most of 193.1 innings, striking out 230. He was named to the All-Star for the first time in his career. 2018 was his best season as well. Severino was named as the Opening Day starter for the first time for the Yankees. He pitched 5 1/3 inning, allowing just one hit and no runs, fanning seven batters to collect his first win of the season in a 6-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. He went his career-high record of 19-8 with a 3.39 and 220 strikeouts in 32 starts(191.1 innings).

The Dominican Yankee appeared in only 18 frames from 2019 to 2021 because of Tommy John surgery and returned to the Yankees' starting rotation in 2022, during which he missed two months due to a lat injury. He posted a 3.18 ERA with a record of 7-3 and 112 strikeouts over 19 starts(102 innings pitched) that year.

The two-time All-Star has had 50-29 with a 3.39 ERA and 709 strikeouts across 638 innings(122 games, including 107 starts) in his major league career at the end of the 2022 season.
