Major Leaguer resume Vol.70 / WBC Player’s resume Vol.56: Luis Robert (Chicago White Sox) : Major Candidate for Team Cuba: “Opposite-field home run!”

Story:
Today's player's resume concerns the Chicago White Sox' outfielder Luis Robert. He was born in Cuba and will commit to Team Cuba in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

The KAISPO’s baseball analyst commented,
“Robert’s ability characterizes a hitting to cover the outside corner in the opposite direction. It's a great skill, but I also want him to be concerned about stolen bases. He has the potential to mark stolen bases twice as many as home runs, although he recorded 11 SBs in 2022. More stolen bases will increase the likelihood of getting an easy pitch by pitchers who don't want him to get on base. So he could hit more long balls simultaneously. “

A free agent, Luis Robert, signed with the Chicago White Sox to a minor league contract on May 27, 2017, after defecting from Cuba to chase his professional career.

His debut game was against the Minnesota Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field on July 24, 2020. It was a big day for him. He started the game as a center fielder and batting seventh, going 2-for-4 with a single to left field in his first at-bat with an exit velocity of 115.8 mph, which was the second highest in the White Sox in 2019, and a double off the wall in the right-center field in the eighth inning. Two days later, he smashed his first career homer off Minnesota's right-hander, Kenta Maeda, with two runs. He slashed .233/.302/.436 with 11 long balls, 31 RBIs, and nine stolen bases across 56 games in his first season, winning his first American League Gold Glove award as a center fielder.

In 2021, the right-handed hitter missed the first half of the season due to a hip injury during spring training. Robert, however, batted .388 with 13 home runs, 43 RBIs, and six stolen bases in 68 contests, recording a lower strikeout percentage than the last season. In 2022, the 25-year-old outfielder appeared his career-most 98 games and hit .289 with 12 homers and 56 RBIs, marking a two-digit number of home runs three years in a row.

The 2020 Gold Glover has notched a batting average of .289 with 36 long balls and 130 RBIs in 222 appearances in his big league career at the end of the 2022 season.
