■Today's player
Today's player's resume concerns the New York Yankees starting pitcher, Frankie Montas. Montas is a Dominican-born player and can play for Team Dominican Republic in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. But he won't join the classic because of shoulder inflammation.

■The KAISPO's baseball analyst comments
"Montas Joined the Yankees at the deadline of the 2022 season. The righty is a starter with an effective splitter he added to his repertory in 2019. On the splitter, he marked a .177 OAV, a K rate of 34.9%, and a Whiff of 36.1% in 2022. With the improvement of his fastball command, he will have a high chance of winning double-digit games for the Yanks in 2023. However, Montas seemed to struggle to a 6.35 ERA in eight starts for the Yanks in 2022 due to shoulder inflammation. He could miss the first month of the 2023 season. I hope he can recover it completely."

■Story
Frankie Montas originally signed with
the Boston Red Sox on December 14, 2009. He was traded by the Red Sox to the Chicago White Sox in a three-team deal with the Detroit Tigers on July 31, 2013.

The right-hander made his big league debut with the White Sox against the Minnesota Twins on September 2, 2015, tossing one scoreless inning in relief with a strikeout. After finishing his first season with 0-2, a 4.80 ERA in 7 games, he transferred to the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he played in the minor in 2016.

The 29-year-old righty moved to the Oakland Athletics in a trade on August 1, 2016. In 2021, he had a brilliant season, marking 13-9 with a 3.37 ERA in 32 starts covering 187 frames, collecting the American League(AL)-fourth most 207 strikeouts. Especially Montas recorded 3-0, 40 strikeouts with a 2.19 over six starts with 37 innings from September to October, receiving the AL Pitcher of the Month.

■MLB Career Stats
The Dominican starting pitcher has gone 36-35 with a 3.90 and 611 strikeouts across 129 outings, including 99 starts covering 592 1/3 innings in his 7 MLB seasons at the end of the 2022 campaign.
