The New York Yankees had an exhibition game with the Boston Red Sox at George M. Steinbrenner Field, Tampa Florida on March 3.

Masahiro Tanaka took the second mound this spring as a starter and pitched very well. The 31-year-old allowed no hit, no run and had five strikeouts in three frames. The Yankees pumped out hits to earn six runs in the bottom of the first after Tanaka retired the first three batters in the top of the first inning. Although the right-handed pitcher was kept waiting for a long while during Yanks’ offense, he pitched almost perfectly in the next two innings.

Tanaka said, ”Those things tend to happen during the season, so with that in mind, I think it was good to go through something like that.”

Also, Aaron Boone commented, "Masa seemed really dialed in with everything. There was life on his fastball, command of it. He mixed in the cutter effectively. I thought he threw some good splits and spun the breaking ball, so three really, really strong innings where I'm assuming he's pretty pleased with it."

His next outing is scheduled on March 8, Sunday against the Braves.

田中将大投手が順調な仕上がりを具合を見せた。ニューヨーク・ヤンキースは、現地時間３日、フロリダ州タンパのジョージMスタインブレナーフィールドでボストンレッドソックスとエキシビジョンゲームを行った。

田中将大投手は、２回目の先発登板をし、３回を投げて、無安打無失点で５つの三振を奪う好投を見せた。１回表に３者凡退に抑えた後の、その裏、ヤンキース打線が６点を奪う猛攻を見せて、田中投手は長く待たされる形となった。しかし、その影響はなく、２回、３回と危なげない投球を見せた。

田中投手は、「こう言った（長く待たされる）状況はシーズン中でも起こりがちなので、そう言った状況を経験できたのは良かった」と振り返った。

アーロン・ブーン監督は、「マサは、全て本当に上手く投げていた。速球を軸にカッターを効果的に織り交ぜた。キレのあるスプリットとブレーキングボールも投げていた。３イニングの中で本当に素晴らしい投球を見せた。」と田中投手を褒めた。

田中投手の次回の登板は、現地時間８日（日）のブレーブス戦となっている。
