MLB Hoping to Conclude Red Sox’s sign-cheating investigation before Spring Training
MLBはレッドソックスのサイン盗み事件の調査を春季キャップ前に終わらせたい意向

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred intends to conclude its investigation regarding Red Sox’ sign-cheating in their 2018 World Champion year. Some resources in the US reported on February 6, Friday. 

According to Manfred, who spoke to the press on Thursday after an owner meeting, ”We have the right to discipline players right now. I'm absolutely convinced of that fact.” He showed his intention of not punishing the players. MLB didn’t punish any Astros players on their sign-stealing scandal as well.

There are arguments both for and against no punishment of the player. Some people think that they should receive punishment because they benefited from the stealing. Some of the baseball fans are criticizing the players, who have not apologized. 
Pete Rose, who had a baseball gambling and has been banned for life by MLB, mentioned their responsibility, apart from if MLB accepts his opinion. 

Others may say that it is not the player’s fault since it is a management problem. For example, in the case of business other than baseball, its management finally will take responsibility if the staff was involved in its problem. 

About the case of the Red Sox, MLB doesn’t seem to have much evidence for the stealing. It is thought that MLB would impose penalties on the organization according to how much evidence it can have. 

When MLB thinks of spring training, it would announce a statement about the result of the investigation and penalties. 

I would like to speak about my position at that time.

MLBのコミュッショナー、ロブ・マンフレッド氏は、春季キャンプ前までにレッドソックスのサイン盗み事件についての調査を終わらせたい意向を持っている。アメリカの複数のメディアが伝えている。

先週木曜日のオーナーミーティングの後、マンフレッド氏が記者団に話したところによると、「我々は今、選手を教育する権利がある。確実に（行われた）事実を受け止めさせる」とした上で、レッドソックスの選手は罰しない考えを伝えた。これは、アストロズの場合も同様で、球団に対してのペナルティは課したものの、選手は罰しなかった。

これについては、賛否両論があると思われる。選手がサイン盗みの恩恵を受けてプレーしたのであれば当然、罰せられるべきだという意見だ。一部の野球ファンからはアストロズの選手らから謝罪の言葉出てこないことを批判している。かつて野球賭博に関与していたとしてMLBから永久追放処分を受けたピート・ローズ氏も選手の責任に言及している。彼の主張を聞くかどうかは別の話だが。

一方で、選手に罪はなく、サイン盗み行為を管理できなかった球団に責任があるとの考えもあるだろう。例えば、野球以外のビジネスでも問題が発生すれば、最終的な責任を追うのは幹部になるのと同じ理屈だ。

レッドソックスに関しては、アストロズと違い、サイン盗みの証拠はそう多くはない。それゆえ、MLBが確実に把握可能となった証拠の程度に合わせた処分が下されると思われる。
春季キャンプを考えると、来週には調査結果と処分が公表されるものと思われる。

私の立場はその時に表明したい。
