The 2023 WBC Star player’s movie resume Vol.34: Max Stassi (Los Angeles Angels): Major Candidate for Team Italy: “Angels’ Brain!”

Today's player's resume concerns the Los Angeles Angels catcher, Max Stassi. He will be on Team Italy in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

​"Stassi had the most appearances with 97 games among catchers in the Angels in 2022. He handled their pitchers whose ERA was 3.77, the 11th in MLB. Their problem in 2023 will be to improve their bullpen. He also needs to improve his batting. But in 2023, his priority should be to manage their pitchers well to advance their first playoffs since 2014."

The Oakland Athletics drafted Max Stassi with the 123rd overall pick in the 4th round of the 2009 MLB draft. He has played for the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Angels in his major league career.

On August 20, 2013, the right-handed hitter made his big league debut with the Astros against the Texas Rangers. He collected two singles in the game. Stassi obtained a backup catcher for the Astros in 2018 and hit .226 with eight homers and 27 RBIs in 88 contests.

In 2019, he was traded to the Angels. In 2020, shortened season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 31-year-old catcher slashed .278/.352/.533 with seven long balls and  20 RBIs across 31 games. In 2022, While he appeared in 97 games as a catcher, he batted poorly with .180.

At the end of the 2022 season, Stassi has recorded .212 with 41 home runs and 128 RBIs through 403 games in his MLB career.
