The 2023 WBC Star player’s movie resume Vol.36: Justin Lawrence (Colorado Rockies): Major Candidate for Team Panama: “Sinker & slider with a 10.13 K/9!”

Today's player's resume concerns the Colorado Rockies reliever Justin Lawrence. He will commit to Team Panama in the  2023 World Baseball Classic.


The KAISPO's baseball analyst said,
"Lawrence is a sidearmer who uses a slider and sinker to put in the zone from left to right. He has two types of pitches, but his slider is thrown both big and small. His slider has a horizontally huge curve as he stretches his right arm, making it difficult to discern the outside corner for right-handed hitters and the backdoor for left-handed hitters. In 2022, he improved his command compared to the previous year, but he needs to take another step forward."


Justin Lawrence was selected by the Colorado Rockies with the 347th overall pick in the 12th round of the 2015 major league draft. He made his big league debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 29th, 2021, pitching a scoreless inning in which he struck out one. Lawrence appeared in 19 games, going 1-0 with an 8.64 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings of work.


The 28-year-old right-handed sidearmer was 3-1 with a 5.70 ERA, striking out 48 batters through his 38 relief appearances, covering 42 2/3 frames in 2022.


Lawrence has gone 4-1 with a 6.52 in his 57 relieves, including 59 1/3 innings, having fanned 65 at the end of the 2022 season in his big league career.
