Tsutsugo Hit His First Homer Off a Lefty to Left Center Field
筒香選手が初本塁打！左投手から左中間へ

The Tampa Bay Rays slugger, Yoshitomo Tsutsugo hit his first homer in the exhibition game campaign. The Rays had a game against the Red Sox at Charlotte Sports Park, Florida on February 24, Monday local time. He started the game as batting fifth and left fielder. 

After he had a walk in his first at-bat, he hit a game-tying (1-1) solo homer on a fly ball to left-center field in his second at-bat without any runner in the fourth inning. This was his first homer in America. Also, the opponent’s pitcher was a lefty, Jeffrey Springs. Tsutsugo can hit to left field off left-handed pitchers. The homer showed the true worth of his hitting. He went 2-for-2 in his first two games overall and keep his batting in good condition. 

Tsutsugo said, “We all say that it’s tough to go up against left-handed pitchers for lefties. So I was happy to be able to hit one against a lefty.”

The Japanese slugger will not be scheduled to play Tuesday and he will play on Wednesday as a third baseman for the first time. 

タンパベイ・レイズの筒香嘉智選手が、エキシビジョンマッチ初本塁打を放った。レイズは、現地時間２４日、レッドソックスと試合を行い、筒香選手は５番レフトで先発出場した。


第一打席は四球を選んで、迎えた、第二打席。４回に２死無走者から、１−１の同点に追いつくレフトへのソロホームランを放った。これがアメリカに来て初本塁打となった。相手ピッチャーは左投手のジェフリー・スプリングスで、左投手から逆方向へ打てる筒香選手の真骨頂を見せた豪快な本塁打だった。
これで２試合通算、２打数２安打と好調をキープ。


筒香選手は、「左投手から左方向へ打つのはタフなこと。それができて嬉しい」とコメントした。


筒香選手は火曜日の試合は欠場し、水曜日の試合に初めて三塁手として出場する予定となっている。
