Yankees would make a record-breaking offer for Cole.

The New York Yankees have proposed a big offer to their No.1 priority free agent pitcher, Gerrit Cole. 

The Yankees have made a seven-year, $245 million offer to the right hander, according to Bob Klapisch of New York Times. That would be the biggest AAV as pitcher’s contract beyond the record of Zack Greinke’s $34.4 million AAV. But, that has not been settled because the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels are still pursuing this elite pitcher. Their offers have’t become clear. There would be possibilities to offer more than 8-year contract or more than the Yanks’ AAV to Cole. 


In that case, the Yankees would add a few extra years or pile up more money to their primary offer. Cole is their primary target of the offseason for the Yankees, which have already had an owner-level approval to spend money for Cole. 

Cole, who 29 years old, went 20-5 with a 2.50 ERA and 326 strikeouts in 212.1 innings and 33 starts with the Houston Astros last season. He has had 94-52 with a 3.22 ERA and 1336 strikeouts in his 7-year Major career. He was in keen Cy-Young Award’s competition with Justin Verlander, who finally won  the award this year.

ニューヨークヤンキースが絶対的に獲得したいフリーエージェントの投手、ゲリット・コールに大型契約を提示した。

ニューヨークタイムスのBob Klapischによると、ヤンキースは、コールに7年2億4500万ドルのオファーをしたという。その契約金額はザック・グリンキー（アストロズ）の年額3440億ドルを超えて、投手としては年額最高となる。しかし、決着はまだ着いていない。依然、同じロスに拠点を置く、ドジャースとエンジェルスもコールを狙っているからだが、まだ両チームのオファーは明らかにされていない。この両チームがヤンキースのオファーを超える8年以上の契約や金額を提示する可能性はある。



​その場合、ヤンキースはさらに数年の契約追加や金額を増加させてくるとみられる。ヤンキースにとって、コールは今オフの最優先の獲得ターゲットであり、すでに金額提示に対して球団オーナーレベルの承認を得たとされている。

29歳のコールは、今季、33試合に先発し、212.1回を投げ、20勝5敗、防御率2.50、326奪三振を記録した。またメジャー通算７年間で、94勝52敗、防御率3.22、1336奪三振の成績を残している。また、今季のサイ・ヤング賞投票では僅差でジャスティン・バーランダー（アストロズ）に敗れた。
