菊池雄星投手、３度目の登板は前回にも増して好投

Seattle Mariners had an exhibition match vs. San Diego Padres at Peoria Stadium on March 5. The Starting pitcher was Yusei Kikuchi, who had his third Cactus League appearance. The lefty from Japan amazingly pitched well. 

The 28-year-old allowed no hits with alongside two walks and five strikeouts in three frames and had three scoreless innings. His maximum velocity reached 96 mph in his final inning. 

Kikuchi said, “Not just velocity-wise, but overall. Each time out I’ve had fewer things I need to work on during the game, which is a good thing. I think it’s huge that I was able to get a strikeout with three different pitches today.”(Cited from MLB.com)

Also, Mariners manager, Scott Servais commented in praise of the hopeful pitcher, “We’ve seen the velocity be higher all spring with Yusei. He’s looked really good all spring. He looks like a different guy. I’m excited as he continues to get stretched out here this spring.”(Cited from MLB.com)

Yusei Kikuchi, who is a key player to the success of the Mariners’ bullpen, is proceeding favorably this spring.

シアトル・マリナーズは、現地時間３月５日、ピオリアスタジアムでサンディエゴ・パドレスとオープン戦を行った。
先発したのは、菊池雄星投手で、この春、３度目の登板となったが、前回にも増して見事な投球を披露した。

３回を投げて、無失点で被安打はなし。四球が２つ。三振は５つ奪った。この日も直球は走っており、最後のイニングで約１５５キロ（９６マイル）に達した。

菊池投手は、インタビューで、「昨年と比べて、すでに良い状態にある。球速だけではなく全体的に。登板ごとに試合中の課題が少なくなってきている。それはとても良いこと。今日、３つの違う球種で三振を取れたのは大きいと思う。」と答えた。

スコット・サービス監督は、「雄星はこの春、より速い直球を見せている。とてもいい。（昨年とは）見違える投球だ。彼がこの春、成長し続けていることにエキサイトしている」と２年目左腕の成長に目を細めた。

今年のマリナーズ投手陣の鍵を握る菊池投手がこの春、順調に歩みを進めている。
